ID: Converting all images to inline

I have a book in IDCS5.5 with hundreds of illustrations throughout it. I'm manually changing all the images to be inline with an 'image' paragraph style. Is there a way to do this en masse - automatically or with a script? Any tips for a more efficient workflow much appreciated!

Open the ePub is Sigil, switch to Code View and type ctrl-F
Find:
<img
Replace:
<img class="image"
Replace All
Fill in the appropriate css in the stylesheet.

The only possible issue is that Sigil will recreate the generated ToC, but as long as you've associated your Chapter headings with the appropriate h1, h2, h3 etc tags in the style Export Options that shouldn't cause a problem.

I think the issue is that if the images are not inline with the text, as opposed to being in separate frames, ID will not export them in the proper order. So the change the OP is asking about needs to be made in ID before exporting as epub.

That said, I don't know the answer, as I am not an ID person. Sorry!

Ah, you might be right. That's the sort of thing that's difficult to automate, and without seeing the actual file it's hard to suggest what to do.

Thank you both for your replies.

You're right st_albert. And in this case I've finished doing it by hand (cut the non-inline image, enter a blank paragraph break inline with text, style this with the 'image' para style, post the image into the empty paragraph, hey presto). I can't imagine a way to automate it really, but it would be very handy.

Thanks wannabee. In this case the entire text was in one text frame (broken up to create space for pictures but still threaded), so I don't think the articles feature was an option.

No, not in this case.

From what I understand you need each element in a separate frame to use the articles panel. You drag each frame into the articles panel, order it as needed, but if your text is all in one frame, you can't add an article anywhere within that frame, you have to add it at the end of that frame.

I suspect there is a tagging/anchoring option. I'll look into it another time.
