K3 crashes when I rest it on a certain chair...
Basically if I put it down on it, it locks up, then reboots and forgets where I had been reading.
Obviously, the answer is to just not sit it on that chair. Which I've been doing. But any ideas why? The only thing I could think of is the angle it rests at (which isn't flat, it's a plastic lawn chair) is causing the battery to get a little bit loose. Either that, or the chair is haunted. ![]() Not a major problem, but curious if anyone else ever experienced something similar. |

First though to spring to mind is static electricity. I just recall the funny tingling back in highschool from sitting in plastic chairs. Just a thought.

That's a bit like the problem that I had with the original Amazon unlit cover. But, of course, in that case it was not positional. But it does seems to be a static problem.

Reminds me of a problem I remember hearing about with a TV when I was in college (I started out studying TV/VCR repair). Anyway this guy went in to (I think American) and claimed the TV kept on changing channels by itself (it had a number pad for dialing). Well they opened it up, replaced the number pad etc. and he took it home and it still did it. Turned out the guy lived in the country and his screen door (it was summer time) had a small hole in it. A fly would make its way inside and land on the number pad (changing the channel). lol. Moral: look for the simple things first. It does sound like static electricity or maybe when you put it down you accidentally press on a button or something like that. Is there an improperly shielded power source near where the chair is? An old electronic gadget or something? Electromagnetic fields can I'm sure do some odd things too and I would think would have more effect than static electricity since the unit's case is mostly plastic.

My Kindle is also very sensitive to static electricity(I guess all K3s is). The unlit cover I had made it reset all the time. I then tried a silicone cover and it also caused resets all the time. My current cover never had had an issue, though.

I agree the K3 is very sensitive to static. I bought a silicone skin someone one here recommenced for better gripping. It seemed okay till I took it off. I heard tons of statics pops and when I went to turn it on later something inside the Kindle jumped! Needless to say I went back to using my lighted cover and the skin is just sitting here on a shelf.

That could be it, I never thought of static electricity.
And the chair is actually right by an old barn, right next to a woods. No electricity nearby, so not any stray EMF. |

That is quite odd
Can you replicate it over and over as in: Get it to fail than immediately have it do it again. Have you tried touching the chair first to equalize any possible static charge between you the chair and the kindle (since you are holding it). Is the kindle in a case or is it naked? Thank you |
