Exclamation Is it normal for the eink side to get very hot?

Hi, just got my pocket eDGe. I updated to 2.2 and then started using it. I noticed that the eink side gets very warm - almost uncomfortable to the touch warm when I am using the tablet side. This is in the bottom towards the hinge. I got scared and shut the eDGe down. It still does it whenever I am downloading. I know the battery is on the tablet side, so I will have to assume that it is the processor (or memory). Am I overly cautious or should I be worried since there is no cooling vents? The area is where I would hold the unit in my hands to read (left hand side).

I noticed the same thing with my husband's brand new PE he got in from woot today. The one I bought during the previous woot does not do this. I am quite concerned. One thing I did realize was that I had not removed the protective film from the speaker (I'm kind of a clutz so I left all the films on while setting his up so he couldn't blame me for any damages). I then removed it thinking the speaker holes are the only opportunity for venting, but I forgot to pay attention to whether it helped. I didnt notice the extreme heat when I put it away though so maybe it helped. Is your film still on the speakers?

I have noticed this only when charging and using at the same time.

If I use it heavily for a long time mine does as well... That's why I advise against overclocking for any significant period of time...

Mine only gets really hot when I'm charging it. Hence why if I'm charging I just turn it off unless I really need it.

i figured it was the processor myself, but i didn't notice it get as warm as my (stock) droid1 when it's doing something hard, so i'm not really worried about it

What do you mean by "overclocking"? I know what that is in relation to a PC but on the eDGe? How is that possible? I just updated it (from a new unit) to 2.2 (Ermine, Froyo, whatever) and didn't really run it at all in its original state. I don't want to overheat anything (since heat will kill anything around it - and I want this guy to last awhile). It seems that everyone just accepts it and considers it normal. This is uncomfortably hot - as in you do not want to hold on to it for more than a minute! I can't imagine how people would be able to use it for extended periods (well, probably not since the heat means that the battery is going to be depleted quickly). BTW: I do not have any film or covering on my pocket eDGe and I was only browsing (this forum incidentally!).

If you use both WiFi and the processor at the same time it will heat up quicker. I can't really know if there is any real difference in the heat as that's all subjective... If it gets to be too much maybe there is some way to get in on a warranty or something...

Overclocking an eDGe would be the same as overclocking on a PC, you sacrifice electrical power to get a faster CPU and more heat. On the eDGe it could mean running some apps better(angry birds for example), and multitasking slightly better.

Mine's kind of warm right now, fiddling around, installing things and browsing the web. It's no warmer than my iPhone gets when I'm doing something heavy with wireless, so I assume it's ok. It wasn't warm earlier, when I had it in airplane mode and was only reading on the eink side.

That sounds normal, asdfgh. Yours might have a problem, mot. Mine gets warm when it's resting on a book pillow and I'm playing games on the internet, but even then it is not too hot to touch. In fact, in the winter it feels good!
