Need help
hi
have over 8000 books on calibre, current ver 0.8.4 for both machines and have spent months formating them on a windows 7 machine and i now have them looking the way i want them ie auther names in the right place and book names in the right order if part of a series so on and so on, however i want to transfer my calibre library to a net book running win7, (have read the FAq) on transfer so no problem there, where my problem lies is that once transfered my formating has reverted to the way it way down loaded on my original machine, my goustion is " is there any way i can stop this happening and retain formating ) if there is a faq could some one show way as i cant find it, or alternativly give advice. thanks in anticipation ![]() Last edited by ir018; 06-21-2011 at 10:33 AM. |

Email the Calibre folks, they should have an easy answer for you.

Calibre keeps the metadata separate from the ebook files, since not all ebooks allow for metadata (or Calibre can't edit due to DRM). Usually, Calibre keeps the info in a file called metadata.opf in the same directory as the books it is meant to. If transfering your library, make sure this gets copied too.
One other thing to do is to try and convert the books, with the output to the same format. This sounds strange, but Calibre will put the correct metadata in to the ebook when it creates it. This way, you can just import the books into the other calibre library, as if you were doing it for the first time, but the info is still as you want it. Also, in the future, it may be best to post in the proper forum. Calibre has its own section here on mobile read. |

There was no need to delete calibre first or to put the library in any specific location. You can point calibre to any library location, and you can delete an existing library and replace it with another. However, if what you did worked and you're happy, that's what's important.
