How can I get the upgrade to v3.2.1
I have two kindles one I bought straight from Amazon last week
that is at ver 3.21 and one I bought yesterday locally at ver 3.1 The one at ver 3.21 is the wi-fi only version and the one at ver 3.1 is the 3G version (both non-ad units). I would like them both to be at the same version of the firmware if possible. How can I get the new 3.21 firmware? Thank you |

From what I've read on the internet, the latest software for the standard Kindle 3 is 3.1 and version 3.2.1 is only for the new Kindle 3 with ads, being called KSO, I think, for Kindle Special Offer.
If you google for "Kindle 3 version 3.2.1" you can get more links to read. Most seem to be about using jailbreak with the KSO. |

The one I got from Amazon (non-ad) is indeed at ver 3.2.1 The one I got yesterday locally is at ver 3.1 (also non-Ad) It is not a huge deal it just would make it nice to only have to maintain 1 set of hacks etc for them. The idea was to put custom screen savers on them as to be able to quickly tell them apart (one is mine one if my wifes). |

My guess it that there is a version for wi-fi only, and a version for 3G.

The only addition of 3.2 is the ad manager and 3.2.1 is to fix the jailbreak. If you don't have ads, there's no point of 3.2. In addition, 3.2.1 is found on non-ad units because amazon doesn't want to flash two different software, they just disable ads on those units.

I got a Kindle 3 3G + WiFi for Fathers Day. My wife purchased it at Wal Mart. It came with 3.1.

That would make sense since they access the net in similar but different ways. That is both are wireless (or so I assume) but one has different coverage than the other. So it would make sense that there is some variation in the OS to account for that. Just like there are different apps for phones and computers (to read kindle books) so that the programming is likely different from one to another.

It is possible to upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2.1 but it is not worth the effort. Especially since all it will do is disabling jailbreak.
