I'm really starting to love your polls.

I chose option 3, by which I mean, "readable, but not among my favorites".

I find her witty and entertaining. Her letters are racier than her novels.

Like some, love one or two, dislike one. Find them absolutely re-readable and do so. I have the English original in smyth-sewn hardbacks with wine cloth and gilt edges, three different German translations and the whole of it including the different translations on my reader.

Any more questions?

Have to post in the middle since I haven't actually read the books but have seen some of the movie adaptations.

Emma Thompson's adaptation of 'Sense and Sensibility' comes very close to capturing the book.

I confess I've never seen an adaptation of 'Pride and Prejudice' because I think the essence of that book is next to impossible to capture on film. Perhaps if it was narrated by Joanne Woodward like Edith Wharton's 'The Age of Innocence' was.

When the essence of a book is tied so closely to the language, film can't really do it justice.

I feel the same way about PG Wodehouse - although Fry and Laurie's take on the Jeeves stories was enjoyable, it didn't quite capture it.

I read my first Austen after seeing Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility (i had a huge crush on the estimable Ms. Thompson) and enjoyed it thoroughly. I've not read them all, because I'm actually trying to save some for a rainy day.

Not compared to how well the TV-series for Pride and Prejudice captured the essence (the humor and irony).

Will answer after I've actually read any of her work. I have the Jane Austen: The Complete Collection omnibus on my TBR list.

I voted #2, because while I detest Austen, the addition of zombies really livened up a boring story about girls trying to get men to marry them.

I, too, liked P&P better with zombies in.

I really like Sense and Sensibility, but Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters was divine.

Alas, Mansfield Park and Mummies sucked quite badly. Cost of having different authors for each book, I suppose.
