Smile free.kindle for iPhone app?

Trying to get a Project Gutenberg book onto Kindle iPhone app (instead of my actual physical Kindle).
Sent the book to name@free.kindle.com and it came back to me in an email. My question is, how to transfer this onto my Kindle iPhone app?
I went to "Manage my Kindle" on the Amazon site, but the book I emailed did not appear in my list of bought books, so I can't transfer it through my home wifi. Files that I emailed to the not-free email address have appeared on that list.
How can I get PG books onto my iPhone app????
thanks for reading!

You can't email the books to your iphone app through Amazon, that is only an option for Kindles. What you can do is browse the PG web page from your iphone, and download the .mobi/.prc ebook you want. You will be prompted for the option of opening it in the "Kindle App". This will download it into your app and keep it there.

I don't know of any other wireless option.

Solicitous, I would also like to get non-Amazon books into my Kindle for iPhone (actually, iPod) app. I tried your suggestion, but Safari is telling me that it "cannot download this file". I selected "Kindle (No Images)" as the file type in PG, which I see is a .MOBI file.

Do you (or anybody else) have any idea why that might be? I wonder if it's because the Kindle app isn't "associated" with the .MOBI extension.

Thanks.

Assuming your iOS Mail app is set up with some account of yours, you can send Kindle format books as email attachments to that account. When you open the attachment, you'll be given the opportunity to 'Open in "Kindle"', and selecting that will add it to add to your Home screen and open the book.

You can also side-load content using iTunes: with your device connected, select it in the 'Devices' folder and then click on 'Apps'. Scroll down to the File Sharing section and select 'Kindle'. You can then drag content from Finder or click the Add.. button to browse for the file you want to add.

Mike, what gen iPod do you have? Googling the problem brings up 3rd gen problems. I have a 4th gen iPod touch with iOS 4.1. I just did a test from pg and it worked. I wonder if you need to update your iOS version on the iPod?

I had posted a similar question elsewhere but reading this topic has made me wonder:

I have the Kindle software on my PC, my Android Phone and my Android Tablet. I have ebooks that I have gotten for other readers... pdf, html, epub and lit formats. I am really interested in the Kindle's ability to sync the ebooks between the versions of the software but I'm having the devil of a time figuring out how to go about getting those ebooks onto one of my current devices and into the Kindle software.

Do I need to convert the pdf, epub, etc formats into a different one?

Which format is preferred for the Kindle software?

Now.. the big question... How do I get the ebooks onto either my tablet or my phone so I can read them in the Kindle software??

Thanks.

I don't use Mail on the iPod (never felt a need for it). But I will try your suggestion of loading via iTunes.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for your reply, Solicitous. I have a 3rd Gen iPod, but the iOS is only 3.1.2. I'll try Tomsen's suggestion first, then consider upgrading the OS.

To be honest, it's not a big problem for me. I only want to read books on the iPod as a fallback - for when I haven't got my Kindle with me - and I can do it easily enough with Stanza. It's just that I've also got the Kindle app on my iPod, and it would be nice to be able to use it to the full.
