Sony PRS 950 not available in Canada :-(

Was all psyched up to get this until I realized that it's not available to buy in Canada. So now I'm contemplating going to the states to get one..or getting another reader. Are there any other readers that are comparable? Size of screen, wifi, dictionary, formats (pdf without converting) etc. I like to read books, PDFs, downloaded magazines etc and the 950 seems to fit my expectations. Color isn't an issue and I do plan on reading outdoors with it.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The Kindle DXG and Pocketbook 902/903 (I think) are the only other large screen e-ink e-readers available.

Your other option is a tablet.

I've bought it from bhphotovideo.com. No problems at all.

If you want a 950, I recommend finding a way to get one and getting it. From what I've read around, there's nothing else that is really that close to a 950. From experience, I will tell you, the 950 is awesome. And from the above posts it seems there are ways to get them in Canada.

Today I bought a refurbished sony prs950 from a sony outlet store. Well I just got back to my hotel room and realized that the adapter is missing. I'm still in the states, at my hotel room, and not returning to canada until tomorrow. Does a refurb items come without this part or should I go back and return the item? I can't believe they would sell this ebook reader without this accessory. What do you guys think? I paid $189.

So I drove to Boston from Montreal (6 hrs) to purchase the ebook reader. Not only did I find out it was refurbished when I got there I also had to buy the adapter separately because I was told it wasn't included (which I found odd since I read it does). Anyways, I get back to Montreal and charge up the item. A few hours later I boot it up and it automatically freezes on me when installing the dictionary. I do a reset and same thing happens again. This time it freezes on the main screen. I am so frustrated at this point. I called the Sony store in Boston and they told me I have to ship it back and they will reimburse me. I'll ship it back to them tomorrow but the moral of the story is.....don't buy refurbished items from the States when living in Canada.

Can't seem to get it in Canada...the sites suggested above do not sell them anymore. Seems that I am out of luck on this one. Especially since I went to the states got a refurb. one and now it doesn't even work. Totally disappointed.

adapter

The adapter is a mains plug with a USB port on the back. You can buy them on Amazon for $5 or less, so if it entails a long journey to the store, maybe not worth it.

I am sorry you had such a bad experience with the refurb. It's a really great reader, maybe use on of the resale services that ships US products outside the US to get a brand new one?
