I Think I'm Cursed To Have Dodgy Ereaders
I have a Kobo WiFi and I was trying to sell it but it seems to be having issues when starting up. I think it's on the way out because the screen goes black and flashes funny and then goes totally black and all you can see is the dots stuck on the screen that appear when it starts up. So there goes that idea.
I also bought a brand new Aluratek Libre Pro and I read the instructions and it said hold the power button in for 5 seconds to start it up. I have done that 2 times now and the screen lights up a bit and the light on the top flashes and then nothing. I press the on button again and the screen shows up and then disappears and then I hold it in again and then the last page I was reading appears. The battery is totally charged too. Grrrr! ![]() |

Can't speak for your Kobo. I've found you generally only need a shorter press to the power button on the Libre (except for after a reset, where I've found the longer press is necessary).

no offense, but you're taking a risk if you're not going the amazon route.

@OP: Maybe consider going back to physical books?
![]() Seriously, no idea about the normal process for either device you have, but that Aluratek issue seems kinda ominous to me. At the very least, unusual IMO. Hopefully Aluratek owners will comment. Still, I would contact them sooner rather than later and start talking about an RMA exchange. Not cursed, maybe just a tad unlucky. ![]() |

It's so easy to return Kobos under warranty here in Canada. I thought Australia was supposed to have legislation that made this pretty easy there as well.

I bought it off Borders AU and I don't like my chances since they are going under. :/

It should be about 4 seconds holding the on/off button but only after a reset (the little
hole in the back or a firmware reset from a system shutdown due to a totally drained battery or some other fatal error). All the rest of the time you are only returning from standby and a momentary push should be all you need. ["rolof" That was a joke post, right? You can't be that blind to what is out there.] Luck; Ken |

Thanks Ken. The start up is working better now. Though I think my husband is coverting my Aluratek after having a look at it the other night.

My first thought was to make sure everything's fully charged.
I don't own either one of those, but when I have problems with mine it's usually because the battery is drained. |
