problem in Japan

Hello all. I've a problem which I'm not sure about and hope there is someone in the know here. I just bought my new prs-650 in Japan, and want to use it with the reader library ie, in English. But when I install the software it appears that I have to register my reader online before I can use it with the reader library. problem is, it only gives me the possible locations as being in Europe. there is no Japan option, and I don't want to be registering it with the wrong information. In Japan, the reader library is actually called ebook transfer reader. Its diffeent and, as you guessed it, all in japanese. I have registered my reader there and can sync with stuff on my computer now.
am i able somehow to use the english reader library?
my other problem is in finding the latest updates for the 650 handset. my japanese is not too hot, and I cant find it on the official site. does anyone know where it is? i tried downloading the english vesion off the english language site, and when i try to update, it doesn't recognise that I have the reader device plugged in.
any help would be much appreciated.
thanks
andrew

The Reader Library is not compatible with the Japanese version of the Sony Reader PRS-650. Don't waste your time trying to hook them together. You need Japanese eBook Transfer program, or just use the reader as an external drive and forget the PC Software.

You might look at the Calibre software. I don't of course have a Japanese 650 to try it on. Please update us on how you solve the problem.

Much appreciated. What is the calibre software?
I can get by with just transferring my books to it as an external drive, but I'm a wee bit annoyed that I don't seem to be able to update the prs device.
I'll post again when I make some headway. If anyone else has some ideas then they'd be very much welcomed.
Thanks
