Newbie from Florida

I am totally new to this site. Heck, I don't even know how I ended up here. LOL!! I am so glad I found it because it appears to be just what I NEED!! Right now I am sort of overwhelmed. But, the longer I am here the more I will absorb!

I ended up here because I kept having a problem updating my Calibre. Everytime at the same place...I get an error message "Error writing to file: C:\Config.Msi\8096936.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory". I have read and read help articles. Jargon way over my head!

Anyway, I need to do a separate post for this particular problem. I just wanted to say how I ended up here. LOL!!

I have Calibre on my laptop. I also have a few other e-readers. My devices I own are IPad and a Kindle. I have thousands of books (all formats) on my hard drive. I have NO books on my IPad and I have NO books on my Kindle. I have a few books in Calibre. I have read MANY of my books. I just open them up on my laptop. I can open up my .pdfs (adobe reader). I open up .epubs & .lit files in Calibre. I cannot stand to read something that is all bunched up. I love for my stories to be "neat" meaning separated paragraphs. If a particular book opens up bunched up, I just keep opening up formats until a book is "neat". I don't know if there is an "easy" way to make books "neat". I don't even particularly know how to "work" the readers...all I care about is finding a "neat" story and I read it.

This is not good enough for me. I want to KNOW how the readers work inside and out. I DESPERATELY need some organization of ALL of my books. They are sort of categorized on my hard drive. I also have a huge external hard drive. While ALL of the used space is not books, the majority of it is books. What a total mess! LOL LOL!!

I LOVE to read. But, I NEED to be able to read on something other than just my laptop. I mean since I do own an Ipad AND a Kindle that were bought for me to read my books..it would be nice to be able to use them.

But, first I have got to get some organization to my books. Learn my Calibre seems to be best way to go. Then, if I can start getting books onto my Ipad & Kindle would be nice. And, then to read read read!!!

So, here I am still overwhelmed and confused.

LOL LOL!!! Where does one start???? I do believe that right here is where I need to be to learn all of these things! I am sure I am forgetting something very important...but, I have covered the most of it. I hope to be a "regular" here and meet a bunch of great fellow "readers" who hopefully know a LOT more than I do!!! LOL!!!

Good to have your company, DeJean. You'd get a quicker and fuller response to specific questions, though, if you posted them in the dedicated sub forums here. Luck and very best wishes. Neil

^ +1 with neilmarr. Most forums work best - ask targeted questions in the right places and you will get great answers.

MR is a treasure trove of awesome info. IMO, pretty much the only forum/site you need, especially to get you going with the basics.

And the people here aren't half-bad either

Actually, people here are fantastic from what I have seen - eager to help and share and have fun.

Please know that I did not mention my "problem" here for it to be "solved". I know this is not the place to do it. I just wanted to explain how and what got me here. LOL!!!

Funny, when I first wrote my intro... I put what I THOUGHT was a "pointer" icon next to my name. When I looked at my intro today for the first time in the "intro" section... I was HORRIFIED when I saw I had put a thumbs DOWN next to my name!!!! OMGoodness!! Who would even want to READ an intro with a thumbs down next to it?? hehehe!!! I am so GLAD I was allowed to edit my entry!!!
