I just finished a wonderful free novel called "Still Life with Murder"

Hi Mike,

I think you'll like it. The amount of reasearch is amazing. Learned a lot about the civil war, the author's use of language and vocabulary is amazing, and it's a great story too.

I posted because I was thoroughly impressed.

Thanks for the shout-out, Pamela Mary! It's always so gratifying when a fellow writer compliments my research, because you know they really get it. Out of all the books I've ever written STILL LIFE is my favorite. Nell and Will have a natural chemistry that I swear I didn't make up!

BTW, if anyone reads STILL LIFE and wants to continue with the series, a couple of days ago I uploaded a 6-book "boxed set" to Smashwords. It's DRM-free, of course (and will be on Amazon, too, when I work out the kinks involved in uploading it there). And at $17.95, it costs less than buying the other five books individually.

I haven't started promoting this set yet, so you're actually the first to hear about it.

I didn't know you posted here. I'm so glad you saw my reaction to Still Life with Murder. As an author I know how much it can mean to hear from readers. I really enjoyed the novel and have recommended it to several of my friends. It was recommended to me by a friend at another forum.

I sure understand when you say you didn't make up the chemistry between Nell and Will. It's so much fun when our characters surprise us with what they do and say.

Is this the complete series, or are you planning to continue it beyond these six volumes? Thanks.

Well, I just finished reading Still Life with Murder - and very enjoyable it was. The characters are terrific, and the attention to historical detail is superb.

I have to say that it wasn't exactly a page-turner. Anyone looking for a fast-paced read must look elsewhere. The long conversations - especially in the central chapters - were a little too drawn-out for my liking. Medium-paced would be a better description.

But that didn't detract from the overall enjoyment. Now that I've got to know Nell Sweeney, I will be sure to read some more of the series, especially as the aforementioned box set looks to be such a good deal.
