Go ahead and get it, unless Amazon does the extra surcharge on "purchases" to your area.

If it turns out you have to read the first one, then at least you'll have gotten this for free.

And if it turns out they really are standalone and you like the series, you can just wait for the others to go on sale someday and be confident of enjoying them even if you wind up reading them out of "order".

And who knows, maybe one day the publisher will put the 1st as a promo, too, if response to this one boosts the series sales enough.
