New PE owner here with a few questions / comments!

Hey everyone, just like a lot of the new people around here I got my PE from the Woot! sale that had them.

I just got it last night and was doing some tinkering. First thing I did was update to the 2.2beta then tried getting the thing rooted. Anyone having any issues with rooting after going to 2.2? I am not very good with ADB as I just downloaded it last night and am getting some issues when actually trying to install SU. I have more reading to do about it though.

Also trying to get Astro installed as I see a lot of people are doing in other threads(i use this on my phone as well) but am not sure what conditions are required for it. Are people installing this while rooted? 2.2?

Sorry if these questions have come up before, I've been poking around but a lot of the info I am finding is for 1.6 or just isn't matching up quite right.

I haven't rooted, never even considered it, but there was some discussion on the MobileRead forum about rooting recently (in the enTourage eDGe section https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=218).

I know it's above my pay grade (I'm definitely geek-lite

), but why root the device? Does it not do what you want without that? (Just curious -- maybe I don't even understand what it means.
