MobileRead Member needs help, please :)

Hi all!

I am posting this here because I have no useful help to give this person and figured someone else might be able to post an answer, or helpful hint, on the MobileRead eDGe forum.

From Zuzusplace13:

" Help downloading files

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to download files for a course and am having some trouble. They are pdf's, and on my pc I would just click on them, a blank window would open and ask me if I'd like to open or save, I'd select and the blank window would disappear.....file saved! Now with the edge I can browse the course website and click the link, but when the blank window opens nothing happens (just a little lock appearing in the orange progess bar at the top). Do I need to do something special to download files like this, or am I limited to downloading at my pc from home and then transferring all the files (do-able, but sometimes difficult from a bandwidth perspective).

Thank you in advance for ANY help as I navigate my wonderful new "toy". "

Hope it's okay to have copied that over . . . .

Thank you for posting it over here (even before I got a chance), Filark. Such a wonderfully supportive community the edge seems to have

I'm using the full size edge with Dingo 1.11 (since that was asked in the other forum). I also tried some other sites (all online journal sites like jstor), but with the same results. Hopefully someone can help!

Have you tried using different browsers? Maybe try browsing the site on Dolphin to see if you get the same result? I know that different browsers have been differently successful with uploads/downloads.

Oh, I didn't even realize there were multiple browsers installed!?! I'll give that a try real quick....It doesn't have seemed to help on my school website, I still get a blank tab with no downloads occurring. Will it give some indication that it's doing something while it downloads??? Maybe I need to wait a few minutes on the blank screen (I'm typically waiting only a minute or a minute and a half)?

You mentioned school website, one of the problems I ran into at my school when trying to download was my school site does not recognize the android OS. All my downloads came as empty files. One solution may be to download to your PC and save in Dropbox. Then the next time you are somewhere where bandwidth is not an issue grab them from your Dropbox. Here is a referral link if you don't have a dropbox account yet http://db.tt/o3AkIk5. Use your .edu email to register and we both get extra, free storage space.

Well, after lots of different attempts, it seems that I can download files just fine....as long as I'm not on a site that requires me to log in So it looks like for school files, jstor files, etc I'll have to use a work around method (confusion is just the price to be paid for only downloading school related files). Thank you so much for all the help everyone.
