Archive Journals to Entourage Website

Given the uncertain state of Entourage I'm not sure if this is such a good idea but the option does exist:

Archive Content (from page 45 of the Pocket Edge User Guide)

To archive your content on the enTourage server:

1. Press the Library icon to view the contents of your library. Select the folder for the content to be archived.

2. Select the Checkmark at the top of the library screen to turn on checkmarks. Select the check next to the item(s) you want to archive.

NOTE: You can archive book markups, journals, and other non-DRM content. Your content will be archived on the enTourage Systems server. Each registered user is allotted up to 1G of storage free of charge.

For large files over wifi, this process can be very, very long. I tried a while ago, but quickly realized that local backups to a USB stick and then to my computer was faster and easier.

The benefit to this service was that my archived journals went into my PE with no problem, unlike my USB backup.

Caution!

I would recommend people NOT use the Archive feature. This feature uses a server at enTourage, and we have no guarantees whatsoever that they'll be operational even until midnight today...

People would be wise to use the Local Backup, and should they need to extract the journals manually, simply change the file extension to .zip, unzip the files, and find the JRNL_*.esj files to "Restore" them.

Changing the file extension to .zip did not work for me on Win 7, however 7Zip unzipped the file without issues.

I agree. Like I said given the uncertain state of Entourage I'm not sure if this is such a good idea, especially if it is your only backup. However the option does exist for now and could be used as a backup to the backup. Also, you can e-mail your Journals as PDF to yourself which is essentially a backup.

Changing the file extension to .zip also works with WinZip.

Not to argue with borisb,., but... Local backup is important regardless. Also keep all the PDF, epub, etc in separate folder (I have it on USB flash, most of my files are non DRM) and add papers to library only for markup purposes. However if you do local backup so far there is no way to move your backup library to another device. I was only able to open it through PC and move journal files and add them to new library on another PE. also PDF and other documents, but all tags and markup is gone. However through Entourage server archive I was able to merge all files with markup and tags to another PE (mind I don't have a lot yet, so it went rather quickly). So if you need to move some files from device to device right now, you can use Achieve, just do not rely on it exclusively as future of Entourage servers is uncertain... And obviously you need both devices registered under same account...

That is a brilliant and 100% recommendable use because you're not expecting the files to still be accessible tomorrow

Same was on XP - windows will not unzip renamed file, but 7Zip did.
