For all of you waiting for a new tablet choice

The ASUS Transformer will release in the US on April 26th. I have decided not to risk buying a new full size EE, not knowing the company's status or the status of our "Froyo" release leaves me wary of spending over $500 again.
I will most likely purchase the transformer and the upcoming Eee Note as a replacement solution. Price total will be about $600; and I get Honeycomb with a capacitive screen plus the note can be used as a Wacom graphics tablet on a PC.
When I bought my edge I couldn't wait to see what a 2nd generation could do; I'm truly hoping someone buys the technology if Entourage is closing.

Love this forum though, so I'll still be around.

Nice choices!

Here are the links for those who want to see: http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_...sformer_TF101/, http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Note/Eee_Note_EA800/.

Two great devices, but separate and not connected...

And I'll add this link, at Tablet PC forums. They're already doing cool stuff on the Eee Note there. This is the "Asus Eee line" subforum link:

Both very cool devices. I hope they work well for you, Cheyenne!

Now, if you could somehow make it so they talked to each other, and put them together like a book so you only have to carry one machine . . . . . . What Boris said.

I am sad and happy about the EE I hope to receive soon (from ebay): Happy that I will have something I know I'll like and will probably use til it dies, but sad that I'm purchasing a gadget for which batteries are no longer being produced and support is running thin.

I wrote an email to enTourage asking them to set up a way for forum members to contribute to keeping the forum open. I got back a response that gave me a help ticket number and said they would get back to me as soon as possible, so I doubt it will reach anyone who can make it happen. Oh well! <sigh>

Having them sync somehow would be terrific, but I think I can deal with email and Dropbox.
Don't worry too much about your battery, after 13 months I still was getting 8 to 10 hours. And for support you have forum unless it's a hardware problem. Most of us are registered on MobileRead too

I have been gone for a while, is there something new going down with enTourage? Are they selling or are they closing? Or is it still up in the air?

Hi Guy!!

I was wondering what happened to you!

No real news, unless you missed the report from Bill about going to their offices in Virginia. At least, no news I know. Although I was just looking around for a backup battery for my future EE and saw on the CDW website that their supplier (enTourage, I assume) had stopped making them as of April 8, 2011 -- news to me. http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Ent...e/2078667.aspx

Glad to hear from you!

Thank you for the encouragement about the battery, Cheyenne. That is good to know (and good enough for me)!

I like the price of the transformer and the Eee Note at $600, Cheyenne. HSN today's special: Acer 10.1 LCD DUAL CORE,32GB SSD, window 7 tablet with docking station for $599.90. I'm considering trying it for the 30 day trial so I can make up my mind.

Received my eeenote yesterday from Taiwan.
Updated the firmware, set language to English and installed additional features and software I downloaded here

First impression: If you like the journal abilities of the EE you will love the eee note.

Eeenote (+)

Almost no delay during writing. EE is not bad but has a bit more delay.
Browsing in the sun, try that with your EE
Size and weight more suited to note taking
Lots of note taking templates
A lot of developers already hacking the device.
Screen is faster, so not only usable for reading but also for games etc.
boots very fast and it will last for 10 days keeping it standby (instant start)

Eeenote (-)

EE has better view with less perfect light conditions. It is like recycled paper (eeenote) vs bleached paper(EE)
No android
No double screen and no color screen.

Will have a look at the reader capabilities later.

Thanks t_b, it's nice to have a bit of insight from someone who owns/has used both. I'm really interested in the reading capabilities too - PDF display and does it have the capability of reading DRM protected ebub? I think the slight difference in visibility outdoors is OK with me. The ability to use it as Wacom type tablet attached to a PC will make up for that.

Everything I've ever read about about tablets with Win 7 has made me leery of going that route; plus I really like Android. I already own an Eee PC 901 running XP(I upgraded the flash storage to 64GB and the memory to 2GB and bought an extended life battery) plus I have my Cr-48, both under 3 pounds. I probably don't need the transformer; but - well you know how that goes.

can you annotate pdfs? If you do how are the annotations saved in the pdf compatible with adobe pdf?

is it possible to install arbitrary linux programs?

exporting journal annotations to Onenote?

The Eeenote seems to be quite more pdf challenged than the eDge. This fellow did quite a good review.

Check out the link I provided to the tablet PC forum where they're really doing a lot with this device. Yes you can annotate pdfs (that's one of its main features) and in part because the device itself is linux based, I believe the resulting files are more compatible with various programs than the edge's annotated pdfs are. (That may be only as a result of the stuff they're working on in that forum, though.)

t_b, I'm glad you've provided such a positive review. I really do think this guy is in my future, even if only as a more portable edge substitute or a back up for when it dies. I use the journal features of the edge more than anything, and I do like the feature to snap a picture, then annotate it in just a click or two.

I know a lot of people are ordering them from Taiwan, but the North American release date is now projected at June 1, and even if it's a little later, that's fine for me. I'm waiting until I can get one already in English (even though tablet PC forum guys like pb have made it pretty easy for international buyers to convert) especially since I'll still be traveling on the road until then, and I don't want to try to coordinate where I'll be with where a device from Taiwan will arrive.

But it's looking more and more like I have to have this.

... and then we'll all have to meet over on the tablet PC forums, too!

I somehow missed these questions. Again, in the other forums they are making little programs AND conjecturing about current linux programs (like, maybe even maemo which is what my N810 runs on! That would be a bonus!)

Also, I exporting to either OneNote or Evernote is built in. (Forgive me, I can never remember the difference between the two.) But one of them is the "default" intended way to sync your files, I do believe. Maybe it's Evernote, because that's cross platform. (One Note is strictly Microsoft, right?)
