¿Cómo andan? Tudo bem?
Those who own an Edge and are based in Latin America are invited to "check-in" at this thread and say where you live, so we can share information related to our devices, accesories, prices, internet connections, couriers for delivery if buying in the US, technical service, etc. It seems I am the only one in Argentina, but maybe there are more of us who just read posts behind the scenes and don't like to speak out... Say hello and let's start an informal localization project! Hasta pronto! ![]() |

Greetings from mexico!!
Hola Paula, como estás?
I am from Guadalajara, Mexico, the land of Tequila, jejeje and I own a Pocket Edge, I am in love with it, it is really an amazing device. The only problem here in Mexico is that we don't have acces to all the e-books, there are just a few e-books available for our download, we have to get them illegally or to download only the available e-books for us. What happens here in Mexico is that the editorials and the book authors don't want to publish e-books because they think they will lose money, it is so stupid, they don't want to adapt to technology. Also I don't know if the same happens to you but in some E-books webpages you need to have a Canadian or US credit card to download any e-book, I hate that!! It is good to know that there are other Edge users in Latin America, actually it also seems that I am the only user in Mexico, I hope we can find more!! Anything you need Paula I am here to help. Saludos!!! |

Oh, Sarah, I see you forged a spicy, hot edge in Mexico... This would be consistent with the "Team Red" I read at your signature...
![]() Okay, this entitles you to qualify for adoption at the Latin American corner. But you can bring as many friends as you want. (Anyway, Soriano brings the tequilas...) |

¡Híjoles! Haber sabido...
Welcome to the thread, Soriano! I think US and Europe are the great sources of e-books nowadays. Some places take PayPal accounts, but if you don't have a validated US address, even if you have funds to pay for your purchase, stores will not accept the transaction to begin with. This is the case with JR, for instance, who only sells through PayPal if your validated address is American. And if you want to provide a different address for delivery in the US, maybe if you have a friend or relative who can take care of receiving the package, it's the same, their automated system will reject the operation. (Anyway, I don't use JR to buy books.) As you say, you have to download what is available for people with foreign credit cards or foreign validated addresses. Or find "alternative" download places. But beside the legal and moral objections you may have, this Forum has a very restrictive policy about illegal practices and warez, so I strongly recommend that you leave the subject out before starting, so you won't be banned or something. After the Administrators' recent exodus, I don't know if there is anyone managing the contents of our posts, but I make the comment just in case. I have friends at the University of Guadalajara, are you a student or teacher there? Tell us what do you use your Edge for, and if you already took your chances with Ermine! Please recommend applications you have successfully installed and you like! If you know sites with fine magazines, newspapers or books in Spanish, you may want to recommend them to people who use it as a second language. I remember having read that there was someone studying Spanish around here... Enjoy your tequila, and let's hope more Latin American people pass by. ¡Saludos, Soriano. cuídate mucho! |

Hi Paula and Soriano!
I am troubled by your not having easy access to ebooks. I would hate that! I checked the MobileRead Wiki for ebookstore sites that might work for you. The first one I tried was US or UK only. ![]() Also I thought of posing the question at MobileRead whether any of their multi-national members know of good South American or Spanish language ebook sites, but I didn't do it (feel free, if you think it's a good idea!). Good luck! ![]() |

Hi Paula, thanks for your comments, and talking about "illegal" e-books downloads, actually I just mentioned it as an option, but I don't like it, because I know that doing that means authors and editorials losing money, and I think that it's not fair to do that!!, ok but lets talk about something else.
I just have been using my PE for 4 months, more or less, I am pretty new to the world of e-books. As soon as I love to read I use a lot my PE as an e-reader, but the best part is that I can also use my PE for a really wide range of activities. I also use it to surf the web, to play some games and have some fun with some apps (I really don't have a lot of apps right now), I even use my PE in my work!! In my work I have a lot of interviews, calls and meetings and I use my PE to take some notes, sometimes I even record the conversations to be able to hear them in the future and document all the details in my WPs (I am a financial auditor and I need to document all the processes), this is really cool, it makes my work easier!!! About Universidad de Guadalajara, I am not an student or a teacher there but I have a lot of friends that were students there!! I don't really know many sites for downloading e-books or magazines in Spanish, I have had some problems to finding them, because most of them don't take international credit cards. Actually right now I have just downloaded e-books in English, but I would love to download some in Spanish, do you know any sites?? I have been using Ermine, and it is really good, it has some problems but anything to worry about, I hope we can have an update to fix those problems soon. If you come to Guadalajara in the future, just tell me and we can enjoy some Tequilas!!!, jejeje ![]() Saludos y nos vemos pronto, estamos en contacto!! Quote:

Craving tequila, but also our "ballenas" of Pacifico beer. (Is it really beer if it's sold in bottles smaller than 900mL?)
