E-ink background changing color

Hi,

I got an EE last week which is one year old (I assume this). The background color which is supposed to be close to white is changing.

From the button side of the e-ink screen I see approximately 20 % of the screen a bit more "brown" then the rest of the screen which looks whiter.

For those of you having the device since a year, do you see the same behaviour of the e-ink screen ?

No, the screen is 100% close to white. I have the EE for a year now.

I will continue to check the screen, if the problem extend I will have to contact tech support. Hope I won't have to send the device to the US for screen replacement

9,7 e-ink screens are all the same: Vizplex, which come now in the Pearl version. A mere replacement of the e-ink screen could be done by other companies I think.

eInk has a tendency to "ghost", where you seem faint remnants of a previous page. Simply press the Refresh icon at the top of the screen once (sometimes twice) to get a clean crisp page again. If that doesn't work, then you may indeed have another issue.

Sure it is something different, the border screen (button side) looks like an old recycled brown paper. (the ghost effect show a kind of partially erased pencil on the paper)
This brown halo seems to be more visible depending on light source and orientation.

Did you try recalibration + battery out and start over? It offen helped in the past when something was not working well.

"Brown" is really odd. eInk is black/white/gray. Could be the eInk emulsion is contaminated with another substance. I would contact Tech Support immediately (they're open 7 days a week) and arrange for a warranty repair while you still can. International warranty repairs typically take 2 weeks from send to receive back (based on a couple of reported cases on the forums) where you'll need to pay the shipping to the US, but they'll send it back to you at their expense.

My eInk display has never been straight up black and white. It's always been a sort of slight brownish -- a very light sepia tint. It looks identical to the display on my iRex Iliad which is several years older.
I do not have any permanent ghosting problem. A refresh always clears up the previous image.

Here's a neat trick: Bring up a page of something on the eInk while indoors and then take the display outside into direct, bright sunlight. It almost completely erases the screen. A refresh in sunlight will still restore the image.
