Took the plunge and the water is fine
Greetings to all.
A few weeks ago I purchased an EE off of eBay. It was used and I really didn't know what to expect even after I researched this tablet/e-reader for months before hand. Now each day I become more and more attached to it. In fact I feel honored to be part of the innovators who seek out the uniqueness which is the EE/Pocket E and are rewarded with their efforts of creating a tool specific for their needs. Like others I was hesitant to part with my hard-earned money on a device that runs 1.6, is heavier than a brick, and has some quirkiness that would baffle Archimedes. Nevertheless I believe it is this uniqueness and quirkiness which draws us to the EE. I've learned a lot from reading what people have written about the problems they've experienced and the solutions they've discovered. I've found a few of my own which I'd be happy to share should anyone be interested. What attracted me to the EE was the e-reader being able to do PDF's natively. My interests are eclectic and numerous. I can go from Social Network Analysis to Music theory in the blink of an eye. From characterization in literature to graphic design with one click. Of course nearly everyone of these are published as pdf's. I tried converting them on my Kindle with disastrous results. Now...well, I'm faced with a gluttonous amount of reading material. And I can link it with the tablet side. ****, I may not be in heaven, but maybe the sixth step towards Nirvana. Black sure is a fingerprint magnet though. |

The only other system that could possibly fill the role the Edge has is the Kno, but, at this point it's is still vaporware, appears like it will be too bulky and is too strictly meant for college use based on its software design (also, it uses two LCD's).

I'm surprised there aren't any gelaskins that look like things people don't want to touch, vomit or excrement maybe, as an anti-theft measure. Might be worth ordering a custom skin. Don't know if it's worth losing my lunch over, though.

Very true
Gelaskins appear to be focusing to a certain demographic in which I lay on the outermost curve. To be honest many of the designs are fantastic, it's just that I get bored easily. I'd be wanting to change covers every week. There is another vendor for protective covers. My Gift.Store. They have a more sedated collection of designs for the EE and PE.
http://www.mygift-store.com/entourag...ls-covers.html They cost more than gelaskins, but they also cover the entire unit, not just the ourside. Sneaky though as they advertise a price of $19.99 which is for the outer or inner surface. The whole kit makes it $35. I really liked the one that made the EE look like those Composition notebooks I used during my high school years. Unfortunately it's only for the Pocket Edge. Also it's not only the fingerprints, it's the grip. |
