e-mail app
I was showing off at the weekend - my eDGe - and encountered something that I can't find the answer to.
How is the e-mail program supposed to work? We have a standard pop mail server to handle all our e-mail, or if we are out and about use out ISPs pop server. In my showing off the eDGe I opened the e-mail program expecting to see the e-mails I had looked at on Friday - they were not there! Fortunately I did have some mail waiting so was able to gloss over the missing mails. Now the question is, how do I see the missing e-mails, i.e. those that are opened once, the program is then closed and reopened and they are then no longer visible? The eDGe manual is unhelpful on the subject and the Android Users Guide only talks about Gmail which does not appear to apply to the default e-mail program on the eDGe (at least I can't get it to apply). |

Most email clients remove the mail from the mail server, so if you use Outlook on your desktop to check your mail, then you won't see those messages on your eDGe anymore. From your description, you have things set up to remove messages from the server. Note that at least one of your email clients has to remove the messages from the server, otherwise your email box will fill up and the server will bounce back all messages after that until you empty your email box.
My laptop is my primary email client, so I set it to download messages, removing them from the server. On my eDGes (I ahve both the EE and PE), I connect to the same accounts but in the app settings I specify that emails should be left on the server. When I'm away from home I shutdown my laptop at home and then I get the emails on my eDGe. When I return home and fire up Outlook, it retrieves all the messages (and after that those messages no longer appear on my eDGe). |

I am not an expert, but in my limited experience using the eDGe email program, once the email is deleted from the server, then the eDGe email gets rid of it also. So, I wonder if you had deleted them from your server after you looked at them on Friday?

Thank you both, it is as I suspected - there is no local storage of e-mails.
Our server does a purge and store of e-mails every morning a half hour after midnight and all viewed mail is stored on each users computer. Now I will have to set up some special mail server just for the eDGe that does a purge and store once a week, or get our programmer to produce an e-mail program for Android that has the option to have local storage - she isn't going to thank me for that idea. |

I use MailDroid rather than the built-in K-9 mail app. It has a "When removed on Server delete on Device" option, which, if unchecked, keeps the message locally even though it's been purged on the server.
If K-9 doesn't have a similar setting, then consider switching to MailDroid (which is far superior anyway, I think). |
