hi,
i have a problem with my entourage edge. I just received the 10inch red edge yesterday. I had it plugged for 8 hours to charge and then i switched it on. It took a couple of attempts (i guess i didn't press the power button long enough) and then, wow the two screens lit! I played around for a few minutes, tried opening a pdf annotating it with the stylus, everything looked fine, and then suddenly the lcd side went off. I tried switching off and on again, nothing. I took off the battery and put it on again, nothing. The e-ink side remains stuck in the pdf page i was viewing, with my annotations on, and won't change, whereas the lcd screen remains black. If i press the power button for 2-3 sec when it's off the trackball light next to the lcd screen light momentarily and goes off again, whereas the power button stays green. Any ideas? PS: i just uploaded a youtube video to show how it looks now here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeMDUR2w4C8 Please help! |

Have you tried calling tech support, also submit an email ticket in case the phone lines are overwhelmed.

I wish I could help more but it looks like you already did the logical things like pulling the battery to reset. Entourage tech support is great, and they do stand behind their product.

It kind of does sound like a battery issue to me... so, hopefully, that's an easy fix. Please let us know what TS says.

A few users (me included) have noted battery placement issues after receiving their eDGes. Usually, taking it out and putting it back in did the trick, without further problems. Are you certain you placed the battery back into its compartment properly and securely? I think it's worth trying again, while you wait for tech support to get back to you.

Removing the battery and running the Edge just on AC adapter will tell us if there's a battery problem or not.

I had something similar happen one day when I was somewhat distracted and impatient. I actually thought it had shut down when it hadn't. Instead of waking it up (menu button press) I pressed the power button to reboot, and nothing seemed to happen (I didn't wait long enough for it to wake up), so pressed the power button again, and then a couple more times, but nothing was happening. When I realized what I might have done, I let it sit for a bit to make sure it wasn't working on something. When I was sure it was off, I reset the battery, which did fix the problem for me. To avoid me having the problem, again, I always wake the lcd side up before I shut down and I haven't had the problem since. |

Thanks for your quick replies. I contacted support, and they were really fast to get back to me, but it rather seems a hardware issue. Battery connectitivity issues would have been a good idea, but the problem persists if i just take off the battery and try to run the edge straight from the power plug.
@aidren How do you go to sleep mode and come back out of it? just with the menu button? Another question (as i didn't have the edge on long enough to notice) is there any sound from the fan coming out from the machine, if it's normally on? |

If aidren will allow me, I can answer your question.
You go to sleep mode normally by simply closing the eDGe up. To help guarantee it really does go to sleep, others have posted that pressing the Lock button on the Power Widget control before closing up the eDGe seems to make this reliable. On the Pocket eDGe, you can tell the eDGe is asleep if the green LED power light blinks once every 3 seconds. When you open it back up, press the Menu button to wake it. The eDGe has no fan. This was actually one key selling point for me when I first decided to buy it because I wanted to be on my night table to play music quietly to help me fall asleep and did not want a noisy fan keeping me awake ![]() |

I do not believe this issue was due to the device going to sleep. If the trackball went off but the power light stayed green, then this is indeed another issue, one that requires tech support.
