e-book 'blinks' before switching to journal
When working on math problems I very often switch between an e-book and the journal. Before the journal appears, the e-book (pdf) page 'blinks' once, instead of going to the journal directly, which would be about twice as fast. It's annoying when I want to remember a formula to enter in the journal. When the journal shows up, I have forgotten the formula and have to go back to the book. I don't know any more if this blinking is 'normal' or if it's a problem with my Edge. Is this normal behaviour?

I would say yes, as this is the nature/need of eInk technology (http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/...standing-E-Ink).

But if so, should the journal not also blink once before going to an e-book? It does not.

Hi janvangastel! It appears to me that the first "blink" changes the color of any annotations on the book and smooths the lines a bit. If you draw something on there, you'll notice that the lines become lighter after the first blink. In the journal, this does not need to happen. In fact, if you turn off the annotation of the ebook, you won't see the double blink. At least I don't in the quick test I just ran.
