Unfortunately, the update isn't available yet. There's a whole (long) thread about this: http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/...ll=1#post10491

I am surprised at the number of negative comments when it is clear that Entourage are being open about their plans and sevelopment issues. In my experience (nearly 4 decades in IT working as a user and for major manufacturers) most companies are not so open and produce a lot of vapourware, the pocket Edge is not a dilution of effort and is probably needed to fund development and profits which will benefit existing owners.
Please add my vote to a stable release over an implementation that is unstabel and or results in poor performance. Yes I want flash etc but not at any cost. IF Gingerbread is going to be more suitable then lets wait, in the mean time effort could be put into Dingo :- * Lanscape for E-inq * Zoom by 4 and quick navigation for each corner (great for dual column texts) i.e in zoom by 4page button will follow logical order . * E-inq power saving mode. |

I'm with you, Jerry. But Boris had some interesting comments on why we should get 2.2 ASAP instead of waiting for Gingerbread. Not being a technical type, I didn't really understand. But I trust Boris. LOL

Gingerbread is the version after 2.2 ("Froyo"), so in theory Gingerbread is as good as or better than 2.2.
However, there's actually a good reason we wouldn't want enTourage to switch gears and go to Gingerbread. Gingerbread is not yet publically available as of today (i.e., so enTourage can use it) and it typically takes a few months to adapt all the custom and system software to run on a new version of Android. Some will recall that enTourage originally (at the start of the year) planned and worked towards an upgrade to 2.1 in the summer, and apparently did what some people are now suggesting: ditch 2.1 and go with the 2.2 version when it became available somewhere in late spring or so. And look where we are now ![]() dontpanic indicated in the recent Froyo Update thread that they are well along on the 2.2 update but that it will still be a month or two, and I dare guess that this will come sooner than a Gingerbread update instead. It also takes about at least a year (based on past trends) for an "old" version of Android to become effectively unsupported by the majority of new app releases, so 2.2 will be "useful" to the end of next year, I'm guessing. Version upgrades, like new electronic devices, are like a neverending treadmill, and pity the poor hamster in it that is always chasing the next rung ![]() Last edited by borisb; 11-08-2010 at 11:09 AM. |

Where are you getting the 1-2 months figure? dontpanic specifically said they don't have a date in mind for the update to 2.2, and that the Pocket Edge is getting upgraded first.
If it were only going to be a month they would still be well within the original fall target and have no reason to make a special statement. |

I think I was thinking 1-2 months after the end of Fall, but you're quite right I'm pulling a date out of the air that enTourage never mentioned.
