More Details on the Pocket edge
http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...e-pocket-edge/
This time with an actual hands on account by Nate. At 1 lb it sounds good. I actually would have bought one if the tablet was capacitive, and use it as a portable edge for vacations etc. - assuming the library is transferable between the devices. Currently I use the IREX DR800 as my portable device, which means maintaining two libraries essentially (edge and a directory based one). But I really do not like the resistive screen, so I'll wait for hopefully an upgraded version. |

Thanks for sharing the link. I'm surprised that it has a non-removable battery.

If the non-removable battery means a larger (and hence longer life) battery, then I'd consider that a fair trade-off. We'll have to wait and see in the reviews. I do hope however, that they now have a hard reset button because a number of bugs in the software required battery removal for proper reset.

You know, I didn't think I'd have any interest in a smaller edge, and certainly not if it were tied to a network (and therefore probably not available in Canada anyway). But if there's a wifi version... it just looks sooo good as something that will fit in a purse. It's smaller than I expected - the photo of the two together really hit home just how much smaller the smaller one is.
I wouldn't trade my regular size edge for one (especially since it's now my only laptop), but I do use my Nokia N810 as a purse-sized tablet/notepad. If mini-edge could sync to regular edge, though, this would probably be a more useful companion. And, battery life has become pretty poor on the N810. I'd be interested in hearing what the battery life on this is. If it could last a day of intermittent use and just be plugged in at night, I actually might change my mind and consider one as a companion. No worse than the people with macbooks and ipads, right? ![]() |

If it will cost more that 200USD or work less than one week, I'll not buy one.
P.S. Seems they remove Wacom penable input? Or what the little window below e-ink screen is for? |

I could totally be wrong, but it actually just looked to me like a piece of tape to cover up writing, a label or logo or something. It would seem strange to me to remove the pen ability when they already have one similar device that has it. And, you would think the review would have mentioned if the main selling feature of the larger device was removed from the smaller version.
But fair question, and if that is in fact an input window, then it's no dice for me. I'm all about pen input. |

The Wacom should be in place - Nate mentions at the end that the touchscreens are as they are in the "full" Edge. Don't know what the little rectangle below the eink is though - good eye. I think even at $299 it would not be a bad device. Anything more than that will start testing the market IMHO.

Oh, and a week of battery life? I must be entirely too forgiving with my devices. I'm thrilled if my N810 hasn't shut off by the time I'm home from a few hours of errands and intermittent use!

Hmmm...I'd speculated earlier that I wouldn't be interested in a device at this size, but it looks like it would fit perfectly in my purse...
And I suspect that if you sign a multiyear Verizon contract, you'll be able to get one of these at just a tad under US$200. |

I wonder if the tape is hiding "Verizon"?

I think it's cute, and I love the smaller, go anywhere concept. If the WiFi only version is priced right it's in my purse. But I do wish they had gone with capacitive touch on the LCD.

So will it work as a phone?

Probably not. It would likely just use a data plan for internet/store/ebook downloads. Though, with internet connectivity that means things like Skype may be possible.

Looks pretty good. I am sure I will get one when they are available. But somehow I wish that they would put more memory in the base version. These days 16GB is really cheap, and would enable a big library without an SD card. My other wish is that boot-time is improved. Just for comparison sake, my tiny 1.2GHz Windows 7 machine boots in 30 seconds, my Mac OS/X Mac Book Air boots in 45 sec. The eDGe with Coyote booted in about 1min 30sec and Dingo boots in 1min55sec. There must be a way to make this better.
