PDF creation
I would like to ask a question. I've noticed at least a couple of people mentioning that they create their own PDFs to use with the Edge. I would like to know how you create these. Are you just creating PDFs of journal articles or full scale books? I'm looking for a way to easily scan large books and turn them into PDFs. Articles are no problem. I can sit at my scanner and do those, but to do several hundred pages, as opposed to 30 or 40, is a different issue. So if anyone is scanning books, I'd like some insight into how you're doing it, if you don't mind sharing.
Thanks, Jim |

I have scanned many books to make pdfs. i have a special cutter to remove the books binding, leaving me with hundreds of loose pages. Then I scan these using my Epson scanner..... very fast! I then take the resulting pdf, add a table of contents with bookmarks in Adobe Acrobat Prof, and copy the book to my eDGe. Works really well.

Adobe Acrobat Pro or Nitro PDF or PDF XChange Viwer Pro have a usefull crop function to remove the white border in PDF. That way the eink screen is better utelized and it needs less zooming while reading. For PDFs with mainly text you can try OCR e.g. with Adobe Acrobat Pro, eventually remove images and charts with Nitro PDF. A text based PDF can then be converted to EPUB with Calibre.
The free version of PDF XChange allows PDF annotation. Last edited by leo315; 09-26-2010 at 10:48 PM. |
