Interested in Developing an Android App, but Deficient in Programming Skills?

Just saw an interesting post on EndGadget.com:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/12/a...veloper-video/

Basically it's a GUI program that allows you to put together an app without needing to directly write code. Looks interesting, although it's not quite clear how powerful it can be. I haven't tried it yet, but the video makes it seem quite accessible for those who otherwise lack the requisite technical skills to write even a basic app.

It is called "App Inventor"
http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/learn/index.html

The tool is based on JAVA. It means you can develop Android app on Windows, Linux and MacOS and it is on-line web based from GOOGLE.

WARNING: You need to wait for approval from GOOGLE Team before using the tool.

Yes, they require a gmail account. I'll wait till it is a little less beta and a little more mainstream.

Google App Inventor

Google has announced a new product at Google Labs called Google App Inventor. The goal seems to be giving non-programmers the capacity to write Android apps on their own.

It's not publicly available yet, but apparently you can submit a form at http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/ which allows you to be considered for access in the coming weeks. This seems like an interesting endeavor, and could change the Android landscape if it takes off.

Oh, I missed that, mods, feel free to merge/delete this thread. Sorry for the double-post.

I've submitted what I want to work on to the Google form thing you have to fill out. I could probably write what I want to work on directly in java (I'm a CS major), but I'm intrigued to see how well this works.
