ereader problem
I can't get my ereader to light up. Is there some way to increases the brightness on the ereader? It's fine on the netbook side.

No back-light on an e reader
You need to use a book-light to read in the dark, an e reader that uses e ink does not have a built in light.

Or ... use docks to go and read on the lcd side.

This is a pretty big flaw, if you've seen the kindle.

No eInk readers have a backlight, that I've heard about. I prefer this because it's the backlight that makes reading on a lcd screen so unpleasant for me. You can buy a light for the eDGe to light up the eInk screen.
So, no backlight is a feature for me, not a flaw : -) |

The Kindle does not have a backlight, either:

A backlight defeats the whole point of the eInk technology.

Increase the brightness in the room where you're reading. It works great in sunlight or with a 100 watt bulb in a reading lamp. Even a 60 watt does fine. You read e-ink like you would a book.

As others have mentioned no flaw. This is the whole point. You don't get eye strain from reading a backlight screen. No e-ink have backlight. One Sony device had some sort of side light that people said was terrible. You have to get a clip on light that is either battery or USB powered to improve your reading experience in low light settings. Yeah I will get slammed for this but understand the technology before you purchase!
That is the on going debate out the iPad vs Kindle, eDGe, blah blah blah. Short term reading LCD is fine. Book reading for most people it is a poor experience. On the eDGe you have the choice of doing either. ![]() |

That is exactly why I became so interested. Although, would it not be possible to have contrast settings in e-ink?

How do you access the books with docs to go? Do you have to load them from your PC with a thumb drive and open in docs to go or can you access them from the library? I'm just thinking how nice it would be to read at bedtime and not have to worry about the light.

The books have to be in internal storage but do not have to be in the library. I use the download folder, but any in internal storage would do.
Then just click pdf to go and open folder. |

It appears to me that there is a vision accessibility issue here. My vision-impaired students need a higher contrast to see text. Even if we could increase the contrast between the print and the background, it would help..

Yes, it does take some getting-use-to, but I find my eyes are less strained b/c there is no backlight
