Buying the "edge" next time i come to the US, is it possible?

As I live in Europe, i need to go to the US to get it and i might be going soon...

So some questions:

Q1. Is it possible to get it shipped to my hotel when I order it, even though my billing is in Europe?
Q2. Is it possible to run the "edge" unregistered? Do I really need to register? I'm not interested of buying media on line, as i will only use the "Edge" in my work, only using my own and my company's generated non DRM PDFs and ePUBs.
Q3. Is it possible to disable the WiFi on a hardware basis? As i work in some sensitive areas where Radio transmitters are not allowed.

1. It is possible to get shipped to a US address that isn't your billing address (we did that) BUT, our billing address is a Canadian address, and enTourage does ship to Canada. So, the shipping shouldn't be a problem as long as enTourage will accept a European *billing* address. I don't see why they wouldn't, because we travel internationally and use the same cards everywhere, but I obviously don't know whether they have some kind of limitation in their system.

2. Given that some have mentioned having trouble registering but are still using their devices in the meantime, my guess is the device would work unregistered. But, again, check with enTourage to make sure that registering isn't necessary for support, updates or other reasons.

3. Do you mean permanently disable wifi? I wouldn't know about that, but there is a physical switch for turning the wifi off and on. Is it enough to have the switch in the off position, or do you mean that any device with the ability to transmit (when said function is turned on) is not allowed?

Thanks a lot for the answers.

About Q1: i just need to check with enTourage, shouldn't be a problem. Only trouble could be to get the "edge" delivered to the hotel at the same time i'm there

About Q2: Sounds great. same here, will check with enTourage, just to be sure. Updates is the most important.

About Q3: Great about the physical switch, that should be enough, If its approved as a flight mode of the FAA. Then it shouldn't be a problem. Its just a precaution to physically hinder a software accidentally (or willingly) starting the transmitting circuit.

thanks again.

So I emailed with entourage and got some answers.

To buy the eDGe one need to use a CC that is issued in the US or CA (I.E billing adress in the US or CA).
I got some friends living in the US so they need for get for me.

So hopefully I get to have an eDGe soon.

Take care here; My sister (in California) bought one and sent it to me but it was delivered without a stylus and Entourage states that "We are not actually able to (legally) honor warranties internationally; that is, we are not allowed to ship anything. "

So you will be on your own - no warranty, no help with anything hardware related. But software updates seems to work even outside the US.

If she bought it why isn't it reasonable for warranty to be assigned to her, so they send her the free replacement stylus? Especially considering this is brand new equipment.

Well, they will honour the warranty within US borders, but it will cost time and money for my dear sister to send it to Sweden. And the cost is already close to astronomical...

"We are not actually able to (legally) honor warranties internationally; that is, we are not allowed to ship anything."

Sometimes parenthesis are important! But, it's worth finding out whether your sister can be the registered owner as far as enTourage is concerned, for just such an emergency. I haven't been keeping track re: who from the second wave has been having hardware issues compared to those of us from the first wave. We do know the power adapter issue was only for first wavers, for example. I think most issues that have arisen in units have been noticed within the first few days.

Perhaps those of you with US buyers could have them do the initial charging and play around for a few days so that if issues arise, they are in a position to deal with enTourage on your behalf. Yes, it's a longer wait, but it seems a fair trade for the person helping you out - they get to play with the machine first!

The stylus is pretty small, it should not cost much at all to send it to you. And, see if enTourage will send it to your sister under the warranty like Sarah suggests. You may want to look into the larger pen-enabled Wacom pens anyhow. Everyone seems to find them much better to use with the eDGe. You should be able to get one at home.

I had a look yesterday, but the "penenabled" pens are either out of stock or incredible expensive (100$ or more). I found a couple of US suppliers (including Amazon US from where I have bought tons of books) but they (too) refuse to send pens to Europe. It make me wonder if the pens can be used as lethal weapons (more lethal than ordinary pens). If anybody knows where I can buy a reasonable priced compatible pen I would be most grateful to learn from you. In fact, any information of what it takes for a stylus to work with the Edge would be welcome.

Yup, buying stuff from the US and the warranty issue, is well known. (been buying stuff from the US for a long time, last thing in the long row of stuff was a Nook). But i'm not worried, so far if i don't solved the issue by myself the contacts i got in the US has helped me .
So thats no issue for me at all, been working as a IT professional since 94 & got a degree in electronics and among other things designed multi-layered PCBs and programmed MCUs, so most HW or SW related problems i can manage on my own.

If the device starts and handles a "burn-in" test before it gets shipped to me, the HW should last until the warranty is out, and after that you are on your own anyway. If it gets broken in transit the "transporter" is liable as you got proof that it worked before it was shipped.

Wow, really? Lethal weapon? I wonder if your customs took the stylus, then.

Reminds me of a friend from England being totally amazed at a knife/scissors sharpener who also sold knives in the mall. He asked if it was legal to sharpen and sell knives openly in public, which I guess isn't in Great Britian (just going by what he said and his reaction, not personal knowledge of laws). We were amazed that it wouldn't be legal.

I suspect you are Swedish
Check "Dustin", they sell wacom products, pen, styluses and parts. I suspect all newer wacom pens are penabled.
For example Wacom bamboo http://www.dustin.se/pd_5010329006.aspx only 196 SEK ($26 USD) + tax

It takes one to know one... I tried Dustin but at the checkout they had added about as much in shipping as the pen cost.. I Googled for the Wacom bamboo pen and found another store willing to sell me one for SEK 344 shipping included. The order is placed and I'm waiting. Thanks for the tip!

dcubed2: It is probably impossible to predict the action of the customs to any degree of certainity, but they may have heard that the pen is mightier than the sword..
