Red face pocket edge applications for mmedia, etc

hi, i'm a noobie, please go easy on me. just got me the pocket edge. hopefully you can offer recommendations. thnx in advance.

1] what application can i use to watch movies? what format (h.264, divx/xvid, etc), resolution, does the pocket edge take? (assuming will be using mp4 container)

2] any picture viewer you can recommend? what resolution is optimal?

3] how do you transfer data wirelessly from device to host computer? ( i have linux only and for some reason i can't get to load the right modules. )

4] how do i get to the shell/root access to the pocket edge? any application that least mimics the shell to do regular ftp/sftp, ssh, etc?

5] might be for a diff forum, but since i'm already here...
what microSD card type does the pocket edge support? i know it's up to 32 GB but can i use microsd hc (class 4? 6?) or it doesn't matter?

6] is there an application to turn off, let's say the reader when i'm checking emails? or how do i turn off android while i'm using the reader?

Welcome to the forums, John

1. If you tap on a video file, the built-in player should start playing it. http://www.entourageedge.com/devices...e-details.html lists the supported formats. The MP4 format works best if it's 480p. Transcoding movies for the iPod seems to work well for users. "mVideoPlayer" is an alternative you can download from the enTourage App Store (launch the "Store" application and look for it under "Apps"). You can find additional media players in Slideme.org and AndAppStore.com, among others.

2. I personally just use the "Gallery" app. The resolution of the LCD screen is listed in the Pocket eDGe Details link in #1 above.

3. Use the ES File Explorer. You can use the "Lan" tab (press the Menu button and "Scan") or FTP.

4. Search the forums for "Root".

5. The eDGe supports SDHC, which goes up to 32 GB. Any class - the higher the number the faster.

6. The reader is an Android app, so you can't shutdown Android Instead, I recommend you install the Power Control widget on the home screen ("Menu" - "Add" - "Widgets"). The far right icon will lock and turn off the LCD screen. You can also tap the far left icon ("Wifi") before locking. Turning these two off will greatly extend the battery runtime. Just press the "Menu" button to turn the LCD screen back on.

Feel free to ask any further questions
