melted wire

I went to plug my nook color in this morning and was shocked to find the plastic around the mini usb plug all melted and the plug itself a bit cock-eyed. Has anyone had an issue with shorts in the cable? I will be taking mine to B&N tonight to see what they have to say

This is supposedly a well known issue if you look at the BN.com NOOKcolor forum. Folks have received replacement cables/adapters. I noticed that the AC adapter gets really hot sometimes.

Went to my local B&N with my melted cord and they handed me a new one with a smile and no questions asked

I was unaware of this problem - I routinely let my NC charge overnight, but the adapter is completely cool in the morning; barely warm at all.

Should I stop doing this?

I let mine charge overnight. I notice it gets really warm when it's in use and plugged in. I don't experience this with any of my other electronics.

If you want to charge overnight, I would suggest that you ensure the cable is not resting on anything flammable (like a pillow on your couch).

Let me say that I was not charging my nook at the time the cable melted. in fact when we smelled it we thought it was the small fan on my desk ( It was picking up the smoke/odor and blowing it out).

My kindle charger gets hot while chargeing but cools down after the green light comes on.

I've never experienced this myself, but I'll definitely keep an eye out now that I know this is an issue.
