Did you try a Golden update?

Sounds a lot like the problem I had.
Try using the modified update.golden.zip found on this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=143035 (It's the first link on the second post.) |

The booting dots have NOTHING to do with the update, they happen after the update program runs and the system reboots.
First check that your PE is fully charged, an almost discharged battery can give the symptoms you are seeing. Try running your PE directly from the mains via the charger - make sure it is plugged into the charging socket and NOT the headphone socket. If it completes booting then leave it on charge until the battery indicator shows full charge. If, on the other hand, a flat battery is not the cause of the problem then you should apply the golden update. After you have tried the golden update - read carefully about what to do - and you still have the same problem then you might have to resort to some rather drastic action but we hope it does not come to that. |

You should read updating instructions here in the forum

Let us start with a few questions.
1- Have you downloaded the PE golden update file to your PC? 2- If you have downloaded the allmine rc3 file have you unzipped it and read the instructions therein? 3- Have you copied it from your PC to the root directory of a FAT/FAT32 formatted USB stick? 4- Have you renamed the PE golden update file on the USB stick to update.zip making sure, if you use windows on your PC that it is not in fact update.zip.zip? 5- Have you followed the updating by USB instructions given in Obsessed2's 'Resources for New Edge and Pocket Edge Owners' sticky thread? If after you have answered those questions and followed the instructions Obsessed2 has given and you still have problems it would be a great help if you detailed exactly what you have done rather than just saying 'I can't do this'. |

Like ivanjt said "The booting dots have NOTHING to do with the update, they happen after the update program runs and the system reboots."
These installations can sometimes be a little finicky. Do NOT throw in the towel after one or two tries !!! You may want to try another USB drive or an SD card as well. There are plenty of users on this forum that will tell you first hand that these installs can be a real pain in the keister. Think I'm kidding. Check this out (posts # 18 and # 19): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...problem&page=2 Are you using a USB thumb drive or a SD card? Some owners who had no luck with a USB drive went SD and it worked, or went from SD to USB and that worked. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...emusan&page=13 (see posts # 183 and # 188) OR they tried another USB stick: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=135583&page=2 (see post # 21) The instructions from Entourage say to hold the MENU and ROTATE buttons for 10 seconds and after 1-2 minutes you should see the updating software message. Check out this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=152244&page=2 (see post # 30). Main source of problems: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...emusan&page=10 (Look at post # 147) Nano spettinato had a similar problem and was able to get his Pocket Edge working with just the Golden Dingo update (see post # 4 and # 10) - https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=170511 Several other possible solutions are also linked to in the referenced thread. ss,
I had a similar problem. Here's a post where I describe exactly what I did to fix it, in a very step-by-step fashion: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...64#post1899964 It's Post 11 on that page if it doesn't come up automatically. You keep replying that you can't do anything because it's stuck at one dot. I know it probably *seems* like you can't do anything else because of that, but it's usually not the case. You'll need to use the paperclip reset method to get it off that screen, fully charge it, and then try the update. I couldn't find a clear step-by-step guide to updating elsewhere, so I made it. I hope it helps you. |
