Hello from Sweden!

Hello all,

I am an Irishman, stranded in Sweden. I only just discovered this forum. It looks like it will take a while to have a good look around.

I'm a voracious, omnivorous reader - devouring everything from science fiction, historicals, thrillers, biogs, political stuff, literary, mysteries, adventure, graphic novels - everything really.

I haven't bought an e-reader yet, but I do read e-books on my computer. I find having the internet only one click away very distracting though, so when I get an e-reader later in the summer, I think I will go for one with no or limited browsing like the Kindle, but I will be looking forward to reading about the pros and cons of all the different devices (which was part of the reason I joined).

I write stuff too, and published my first two e-books last month. They are doing pretty well.

Dave

Good to have your company, David. And I heartily agree with you about the bells-and-whistles distractions some ebook reading devices stick us with. As welcome as a phone call from some spa holiday salesman half way through Star Trek. No shortage of readers out there that are simply ... well ... books. Luck in your search for the right one. Slainte. Neil

Thanks Neil.

I have a terrible attention span - I'm used to having ten tabs open on my browser and flicking back between them all.

I do read some e-books on my computer, but I tend to stick to shorts. It's hard to keep focused on longer work, and I don't tend to have the immersive experience I get from a printed book because of all the distractions.

I like the look of the new e-ink Kobo reader, but it will probably be September before I splash out on something, and I think there will be a whole range of newer devices then and lower prices too in time for the holidays.

Welcome to MR, Dave.

I see you have been finding your way around our site already. With 2 books out you'll really have to find a device (just to see how great your books look on it ) I checked out Guido Henkel's site and thought he had a pretty easy to understand guide. Thanks for sharing.

Have fun exploring MR and just ask if you have any questions.

One of the drawbacks of living in Sweden is that Kindles are very expensive. Plus, Amazon add a $2 surcharge on all e-books (on top of taxes). There are ways around all of these things, but with the new touchscreen Kindle out in September, I think I might wait for that.

Luckily I have a couple of friends who check out the files for me.

Guido Henkel's guide is a wonderful thing - and it works.

I do have a question - and I have searched and searched and couldn't find the answer.

How do I add a text signature like you have?

Ah, these privileges are granted with the passage of time. Makes sense.
