Kindle 2 GPS
I'm putting together a script that watches for hotkeys and allows the user to paste the current GPS coordinates. Some sites (for example, wap geocaching) already let you input coordinates. In this case, one would paste longitude, press down, paste latitude, press down, and press Ok. But some sites like Google Maps, Gasbuddy, NOAA Weather, etc. do not have a direct form to enter your latitude and longitude. So...
What shortcut keys seem most useful to people? I thought of something like Alt-C (coordinates?) and it just types in the longitude, presses an arrow, types in the latitude, presses an arrow, and submits all at once. The problem is if a website requires a different order for the coordinates, or a different arrow press. So you could have Alt-X and Alt-Y which would simply paste the longitude and latitude, respectively. What do you think: what is easiest to use / most useful? Or other suggestions? |

Could someone with a Kindle 2i (or one that uses AT&T, anyway) do the following:
1. Enable Wireless 2. Go to Menu > Settings 3. Press 6 1 1 Please look for any entries that look like coordinates. On Sprint they are named Latitude/Longitude and there is another HDRlat/HDRlon. I only need the names of the fields, not your GPS coordinates. ;-) But if there is more than one set of coordinates, it would be helpful if you also say which one is the most accurate! Thanks! |

Just curious, how is it pinpointing the coordinates, is it through cell-phone towers?
Does this mean that as long as you've activated the Wireless connection Amazon can at any time know your location. |

@thinkpadx The Kindle's modem has a GPS like most if not all 3G modems.
Just curious, how are you getting the coordinates. |

I haven't been getting the coordinates. Just read isotherms post, but if this is true there's certainly something Amazon hasn't been speaking loud about.

611 shows network information for Sprint/CDMA models.
It may be that the AT&T/GSM versions don't report latitude/longitude... One might have to use a geolocator service. If someone has a K2I (or other GSM model), and also has USB networking enabled, could you attach here the file produced by this command: Code:
lipc-get-prop com.lab126.wan logString>/mnt/us/wan.txt |

I think only the US 3G versions (Sprint CDMA) support GPS location directly.
