Question Pictures in non-fiction ebooks

I have a lot of books and I'm starting to run out of shelf space. I've been looking at non-fiction ebooks and there are a number that interest me. However, all my non-fiction 'hard copy' books have at least one section of photographs. I wouldn't want to buy a non-fiction ebook that didn't have these.

Can anybody out there give me information on the presence (or absence!) of pictures in non-fiction books?

I recently read the book Unbroken and it does have photos. In fact, the photos in Unbroken displayed better on my 650 then they did on my wife's iPad. The photos in this case are gray scale.

I read quite a bit of non-fiction. Most of the ebooks have the same pictures as the print editions. Photos like in memoirs look good displayed in eink. Only detailed graphics like maps with small text don't look so good. Also, even though the pictures display black and white on your Sony, many of the ebooks actually include color pictures. So, if you want to see them in color, you can view them on your computer screen (like with the Sony Reader Library software or Adobe Digital Editions).

Some have 'em, some don't. They don't warn you which is which. For instance, I have the deadtree version of Carl Zimmer's Parasite Rex, which has a photo section. I also have the ebook version of Parasite Rex-- which doesn't.

This method doesn't work all of the time, but sometimes when in doubt I download book samples from Barnes & Noble. The EPUB files for B&N samples don't have DRM so you can transfer them to your Sony ereader. If graphics are interspersed throughout the text, then you will probably see them in the sample pages or you can look at the Table of Contents to see if there is a photo section.
