Greetings from Scotland

Hello everyone, I'm Stephen and I look forward to using this forum with you all. I've recently published a collection of short stories on Amazon and Smashwords.

I am always interested in electronic book readers supporting native langueges. Do you or any of your pals speak Gaelic? I am told this the native languege of scottland. I wonder if the Kindle will support the languege? I know that Open Office speaks Gaelic - ga.openofice.org.

According to the 2001 Census, 58,000 people (1.2% of the population of Scotland) had some language ability in Gaelic at the time, so it is a minority language by any measure. Most native speakers live in Outer Hebrides. Gaelic is written (today) with the standard Roman alphabet, so the Kindle certainly supports it.

Lovely language to listen to, but few speakers. My late dad was fluent, but -- like most Scots -- I know only a few basic greetings, whatever crept into the Scots Lallans dialect I picked up as a lad (eg: a la Rabbie Burns) and, of course, some curse words and phrases you could use with a smug smile and complete safety in English and Welsh pubs (though not in Ireland where their own Gaelic is so close to ours). Also, by the way, used to know all the warning shouts used in Nova Scotia, Canada where danger cries in the mines were (at least until the seventies) in Gaelic. Slainte ba. Neil
