Help with Calibre & Nook format

My name is Ann Bartholomew.

I have both the Nook & Kindle on my Dell laptop, and was trying to find a way (if possible) to convert all the books on the Kindle to Nook using Calibre, so I can consolidate my reading.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

If you remove the DRM from the kindle ebooks, you can then convert them to epub format using Calibre.

Beg Pardon?

RAH,

DRM?

I see the extension of .azw & .apnx....
Where would I find the DRM & how would I remove it? Is it in a post on the forum, or something I can find online?

Not all Kindle/nook books are DRM enabled. For books which are not DRM-enabled, you can import the .azw book into Calibre, right click on it, and choose to convert individual file, with the output format epub. Or you can do it the other way around.

There are illegal Calibre plugins that remove DRM. I suspect dr. google would be your friend there.

What Joykins says is correct. I assumed that you were familiar with DRM (which stands for Digital Rights Management and is an anti-piracy thing) and its removal, Ann, because Calibre will not even add a DRMed book to its catalog unless one of these drm-removal plugins is enabled. It just refuses to do it, telling you that the book has DRM.

So, without removing the DRM, to my knowledge you cannot do ANYTHING to a book with Calibre, whether it's a Kindle book, a Nook book, or whatever.

Folks are reluctant to talk about drm-removal (myself included) on these forums for a number of good reasons, but you can find info about it without much difficulty by doing some searching.

Thank you RAH & Joykins. I had heard of DRM, just don't know if any of my books have it. I did find a DRM removal app, and will try it tomorrow. And Calibre on the books & see what it kicks out.

I anticipate purchasing a new Nookcolor and cover by the end of June...

Most of the major publishing houses' books have DRM; independent publishers and self-published books may not.

I've found the site:

www.makeuseof.com

to be an excellent source of helpful guides to the computer and internet world. Their recent publication (free) Open Books is an excellent primer to calibre.

I hope you find their site as useful as I have.
