Kindle VS Nook projects

I thought this was interesting….. I have the same 3 items on kindle and nook. Nook is out selling my kindle stuff 3 to 1. I’m not sure the reason. Any ideas??? I’ll be posting this on several blogs for feedback. So I apologize ahead of time if you get see it more than once.

In my research, I found more ereaders using the epub format. See the second chart on this link. No I will not share my sales, they are minimal. I'm having fun and that's what matters. I just found it interesting at the difference in Amazon and B&N.

I would also guess it has to do with the format. If you have an e-reader that supports epub, you can buy from B&N and then sideload the epub onto any e-reader capable device. Broadens the audience quite a bit further than just Nooks.

Not if it has Barnes and Noble DRM, unless you remove the DRM. And if you know how to remove the DRM then you probably know how to remove the DRM and then put it on the Kindle.

As for why a book is outselling on Barnes and Noble vs Amazon - we'd have to know what the book is to speculate. Overall Amazon sells far more eBooks than Barnes or any other retailer, but certain types of books do well in the smaller PubIt platform.

It also depends on where you were marketing (assuming you marketed). Did you spend more time on B&N boards or Amazon boards?

Also, I can't imagine calendars and a grocery list being usable on the Kindle, but maybe more-so on the Nook. Since we're not talking about an ebook, I think the type of item it is can have an impact on which users prefer it.

There's also some Random capitalization in some sentences, and misplaced/missing, commas.

my guess is the kindle doesn't have as much as a stranglehold on the ebook reader market as people are led to believe.

We never have any cold hard numbers for sales, from either company, only perceptions and estimations.

Since Christmas, I've seen a ton of the wifi only nooks on the trains. see alot of kindles as well but I think the two are closer in sales then we think.

Perhaps not internationally?

I see far more Kindles than other readers.

Internationally sure, I don't know of what or if any type of presence the nook has outside of the US.

This person isn't selling ebooks, she's selling calendars and a grocery list. That sort of thing doesn't work well on the Kindle, so it stands to reason people won't be buying it on the Kindle.

They don't work all that better on a nook from what I can tell.

If his sales are really small as his suggests, I doubt it's useful to draw any generalizations from a statistically insignificant sample.

For myself, though, I read on a Kindle, my wife reads on her iPod, and my son reads on a Sony, so when given the choice, I download epub rather than Kindle format and convert it for whichever reader it's going on. Especially among public domain and indie-created stuff, I seem to have better luck in general converting epub to mobi than the other way around.
