Best Reader For Somone in Singapore

I have a friend in Singapore who has a slight interest in readers. Someone is suggesting a Kindle, I suggested a Sony. She says it is difficult to get books via Amazon since there is no Amazon Singapore & she can't get anything from Amazon UK. Suggested she check out Mobilereads. I also told her about the Singapore Library.

So I'm curious whether a Sony would be better for her or should she go with a Kindle. Or does anyone have any other suggestions for a reader in Singapore. I did mention VPN to her & for her to search out posts here on it.

I saw a post on this last year, but I haven't spotted anything recently. Thanks for any help here.

I would recommend a Bookeen becuase it has been specifically designed to handle foreign langueges, non-english, books and it is not tied to one specific electronic book store. Thus as long as your pal can get to any book store at all the bookeen can read the books. I do not own a bookeen nor do I have any stock in the company that sells the reader, I gathered this information by speaking to owners of bookeen readers.

Personally I read on my company provided blackberry with several downloaded readers but that has the problem that it has a very small screen. If your pal can deal with the small screen then a smart phone will do the job.

If you want a larger screen go with the bookeen if you want to pay an extra low cost then use a smart phone, but be aware of the smart phones' problems.

I think she mostly reads in English, but does know Chinese. She went to college in England so she is comfortable with the language. I will suggest the Bookeen as one possible reader to look at.

iRiver is a Korean company and does epub devices, it should be possible to find one there. But I'd say a Sony and Singapore Library are a great pair. She can buy her books either at the bookdepostitory or at any other epub selling store in the world, which are quite a lot, or at Sony if she enters a US address (they don't check the CCs).
