Best Use of a Pop/Rock Song in Movies/TV
I was watching Flash Forward on Netflix recently and there were a couple of instances where they used songs to great effect so I was thinking of other T.V. shows and movies that used songs to make an impression.
1. a) The Royal Tenenbaums: Nico's version of "These Days" when Margot meets Ritchie at the bus. b) Royal and the grandsons' mayhem to Simon and Garfunkel's "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard." c) Van Morrison's "Everyone" at the end of the movie. 2. Six Feet Under: NOTHING beats Sia's "Breathe Me" to that amazing, series-ending montage. 3. a) Flash Forward: Bjork's "Oh So Quiet" while the bus rolls into the pond. b) Pearl Jam's "Unthought Known" during a powerful ending montage to that episode. 4. Notting Hill: That montage to "Ain't No Sunshine." 5. For something more upbeat, Ferris Beuller's Day Off: The Beatles' "Twist and Shout." 6. Beetlejuice: "Day O" by Harry Belafonte. That was such a hilarious bit. 7. Lest I forget, that "Don't Fear the Reaper" at the beginning of The Stand. What are your favorite music moments in TV or movies? Everything by Queen in Flash Gordon. Otherwise the movie would have been awful methinks.
Not Rock/Pop, but Danse Macabre at the start of Jonathon Creek. |

Not a Pop/Rock Song, but the arie
"La mamma morta" from the opera "Andrea Chénier" sung by Maria Callas in "Philadelphia". For me personally, this is one of the most impressive music scenes in any movie. |

Nothing to Lose (1997), is worth watching just for the Coolio song, but
this video is better |

hmm
![]() 1. Limp Bizkit's Take a look around in Mission Impossible II. 2. The Turtle's Happy together in Heineken ads, starring Jennifer Aniston ![]() 3. Coolio feat. LV's Gangsta's paradise in the movie A Dangerous Mind. 4. Seal's Kiss from a rose in the movie Batman Forever. 5. Bertie Higgins' Casablanca, in the movie Casablanca. 6. The Notwist's Consequence in the 2009 movie Push. It's not well known, but it appeared at the right moment when he and she kissed in the bathroom and... yeah, all I thought after the movie ended was "gee I'll find out what that piece of beats is!" 7. Stereophonics' Maybe Tomorrow in the 2004 movie Crash. This song always gives me a feeling that's hard to express: Laziness. Nostalgia. Quietness. I don't know. Quote:

All of the Michael Nyman music in the Peter Greenaway films (especially "The Draughtsman's Contract" and "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover").
The denouement to The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, where Helen Mirren forces her husband to do the unspeakable, is absolutely stunning, coinciding as it does with the music's incredible climax, and is one of the best examples of music and film melding perfectly that I have ever seen. Couldn't talk for a while after I first saw that. |

Season 1 of Smallville, episode 19: "Crush." Clark is set to move in on Whitney Fordman's girfriend, Lana Lang. We can see she really loves Clark, and he loves her, but neither has made a move to declare their true feelings because of their respect for Whitney. But now Lana has finally decided to let Whuitney know how she feels about Clark, but before she can drop her bombshell, Whitney drops one of his own: His dad has just died. Knowing this is the wrong time, neither she nor Clark say anything else. At the funeral, you can see Whitney grieving for his lost father as stolen glances between Clark and Lana speak volumes. Adding to the drama are the looks on the face of Chloe Sullivan, who is also in love with Clark, and was suppose to be his prom date. The music for the funeral scene was Time After Time (by Cyndi Lauper), sung by the late Eva Cassidy.
