Reader screen fades over time?

My wife and I both have Readers. We got them close to launch time. My wife has read perhaps 30 books on it, whereas I've probably read under half of that number. Her screen is NOTICEABLY more faded than mine, almost to the point where I think it's unacceptable. The text is very grey, whereas mine is much more black and "contrasty." Is this a design flaw or what?

There is a variable resistor inside the Reader which sets the contrast. They appear to be set to a wide range of settings. It can be adjusted if you're brave enough to take the Reader's cover off - someone posted a thread with photographs showing how to do it.

I *do* believe that the screens fade over time. I was in a local Fry's and saw the display model. Couldn't believe anyone would buy one looking like that. It really looked like a pocket calculator screen ;-)

Certainly they do. All I'm saying is that they can start out from very different contrast levels, and that the contrast can be tweaked by the brave.
