Hebrew is right to left, yes? The Kindle can't do rtl becuase the format doesn't support it.
Your only option is PDF. |

since its hacked, cant there B a solution? and maybe some 1 can modify any font(say Arial - a good font) so it will be reversed- so kindle reverses it and it will be readable? edit: even when i put reversed font- kindle reads it just like before(i hoped it will reverse it back to normal) here is a sample for reveres hebrew font http://www.mediafire.com/?09qddt92y5nmo45 please help me! As Nate the great said, your best bet is PDF. A PDF formatted for the screen size should work well. Calibre can convert reflowable ebook formats into PDF for you, although I don't know if it will detect RTL in a MOBI.
Another option might be FBReader, although only recent versions of FBReader support RTL and I'm not sure the FBReader hack works on the KDX. See FBreader & fbKindle. EDIT: Calibre can't embed fonts, and you may need a PDF sized for the sceeen and with embedded fonts. Last edited by wallcraft; 12-18-2010 at 08:44 PM. |

For short sentences or separate words in Hebrew I have been considering using "graphic" letters (image per letter). The formatting is much more complicated but it works (that's how they did phonetic transcription in Merriam-Webster's Advanced Learner's Dictionary, a high quality conversion).
However, an entire book in Hebrew is not possible in the mobi format, at least not on the Kindle. |

If you're asking why it isn't making the text the work "backwards" is because your font is not right-to-left, it's just making every character flipped. It's just a regular font, and that's not how the hebrew font works. If you could find a font that makes the word "backwards" into "sdrawkcab", that should be more like it.

Why not format the eBooks so the words are backwards so when displayed forwards, they display correctly?

No, the font will not work to change the text from left->right to right->left. The computer does it because it understands right->left text. The readers current out there do not. The only thing you can do is write a program to take the eBooks and flip the text around so they display as though they were right->left.

There's a free PDF Creator in the Wiki tab of this forum. I was able to create a pdf of a Microsoft Word Hebrew file and it looks great on my ereader (not a Kindle). One word of warning, when you download the software it also adds other stuff to your PC.
