If you voted for a book, would you be more likely to read it?
Hi,
We think that there is a gap between writers & readers which traditional published haven’t closed yet. We want readers to be more involved in the publishing process, especially when it comes to new authors, so that’s why we’ve decided to let readers choose the titles which we publish. What do you think? www.wink-publishing.com |

The neat thing about ebooks is that you can publish them all. Although I do think you need to focus on specific ebooks for marketing purposes. Have you considered implementing a referrer tracking incentive program for your users? Say 1% of each sale goes into a user's account paid quarterly? That way you could turn your users into the marketers.

the more ebooks you publish, each with its own page, the more traffic you'll get from search engines to the book pages. also for each book you publish, you can list it here in this forum - or let the author do so - and also announce it on all the other ebook forums and blogs.
if you want to do something that stands out, edit and proof read each ebook you publish, and offer it in a good variety of formats at a reasonable price. most of the ebooks i buy or get free have all sorts of typos, wrong words and other issues, so well edited ebooks would be a welcome change from most. |

The rapidly changing quotes at the top of the website are very distracting. They hit the same button as animated banner ads: I want to leave the site and never come back.
I'd recommend to have the quote change only on reload, or at least at a way slower rate. |

Thanks for the comments.
We'll see what we can do about the rapid quotes. Even though ePublishing means every book can be published, it doesn't mean that every book should be published. We're offering everything which a traditional publisher offers, with 2 major differences. 1 - We'll concentrate on eBooks rather than hard copies. In a few years time all publishers will do this, but at the moment we're the first. 2 - We don't choose what we publish. At the moment, traditional publishers choose their titles & hope that readers like a particular book enough to buy it. Buy letting readers choose our titles, we hope that some of the guesswork as to which books will be popular will vanish. While we have delegated the choice of book to readers, the quality of the work will still rest with us. We'll make sure that every book we publish is as good as it can be, including editorial amendments, art work and promotion. We're a publisher after all, and even though eBooks take away some of the mystery about publishing, the dark art of selling books will always exist & probably rest with publishers! Thanks again. My recommendations are as follows:
1) Please ensure that your writers have at least an average writing ability, I can't take a lot of switching of points of view and seen changes (no more then one per page) 2) Make sure that your authors can keep the tale flowing. 3) Provide a wide range of topics and subject matter for your readers to chose among: some hard boiled detectives, some female detectives, some where the cop gets the crook, some terrorist thrillers, some presidential thrillers (the US President is involved someway, might initate the books, might be the crook and might be the detective, might walk on to the stage on ocasion), some techno-thrillers. 4) Provide some odball stories, get creative and show that your company has an imagination. Perhaps a fantasy murder mystery (An academy to teach magicians and one of teachers gets killed), techno-thriller mystery romance (techs with a computer problem, in love when a murder takes place). Perhaps a Sci-Fi humor (Star Treck's Jean Luc Piccard like character with a sense of humor, Piccard has as much of a sense of humor as a kitchen stove). How about a techno Sci-Fi (a terrorist bombing set in the future). Last edited by jbcohen; 04-15-2011 at 12:57 PM. |

Thanks for your comments.
We will be exercising some quality control, but only on spelling & grammar etc, but not in respect of the story itself. Our contests will be open to everyone, ever style, every genre and every style. That should, we hope, unearth some real gems. I agree, that as we publish more, our SEO will get better, but at the moment, it's a bit rubbish! Thanks again for your feedback. Wink Publishing. |

What do you do that is worth the 60% of the writer's income you would be taking from them? (+80% for print, 50% subsiduary income).
A lot of the things that I would expect a publisher to handle -- getting copyright permission for using quotes, creating artwork/illustrations and the like -- are specifically excluded by your publishing contract and is the responsibility of the writer. You also say you will charge the writer for making alterations to the final proof. |
