Talking Calibre takes up Too Much Memory

Calibre takes up too much memory for my wimputer. Is there a stripped down version or a previous incarnation that takes up less memory than the current version. Thanks for your help, Jerryprism

Yes. I forget how many weeks it was before they discovered the flaw and came up with the LIM (Lotus, Intel, Microsoft) Expanded Memory Spec

My latest version of Calibre (755 on osx) takes ages for each and every click I make, ever since the latest version.
I should have saved the version before that...

I actually worked at Lotus in Cambridge back in those days. I remember well using that 'extended' 384k above the 640 for TSR and expanded memory hooks. Like I said, those were the days.

I don't have that issue on 10.5.8.
Have you tried closing all of your other apps to see if something else is causing an issue, or rebooting to make sure everything is cleaned up?

How extravagant! I remember 64K (only 32K free ram). I still have my old Commodore C64c.

I had a TI-994 with 16K (standard) and I added the optional 32K module.
Part of the 'secret' of the 99-4 was that programs mostly ran out of G-ROM and RAM was only used for volatile storage.

Heck, in the days before PCs, minicomputers, using a multi user environment were running 128 k words (256 KB) of RAM. And in the days of core memory (actual physical magnets rings for each bit) 8K was a large amount of memory.

IIRC first IBM PCs shipped with 32K of RAM, later raised to 64K. Even the PC AT only came with 128K from the factory.

I think I kept Commodore in business back in those days. Let's see:

2 Vic 8s
3 C64s
1 Commodore 128
