PRS-500 Charging PRS-500 in Ireland

A friend is taking her PRS-500 to Ireland soon (we live in USA), and asks what does she need to buy or do to charge it on her trip. Any thoughts?

If she's got a mains charger (and it's rated International - 110-240V) then just a US to Local adaptor - 3 pin...

If she still has the USB charger, she can plug it in whenever she checks her email. 15-20 minutes a day should keep the reader fully charged.

If I remember correctly the 500 does not charge via USB. Or perhaps it was that it would not charge via USB if the reader was completely out of power.

The PRS-500 uses a barrel connector PSU not a USB... only charges by USB port on an active computer (otherwise discharges... don't let computer sleep or hibernate).

The 500 will charge via USB. The charger was so bulky that I often used to skip packing it on trips and would charge with the USB cable via my laptop. The caution is that if the battery of the 500 gets very low then the USB cable won't work and you need the wall charger. So if you aren't the type of person to pay attention to that then best to take the wall charger. The charger will work fine with a plug adaptor for the wall outlet just like you would do with your mobile phone or iPod.

She says she's leaving her laptop at home (so no USB), and won't have time to seek out internet cafe-type places.
She got some info from Sony (after much back and forth with them) and will get one of the devices they recommended.

But thanks for your suggestions.
