What hacks might interfere with 3g browsing?

I'd like to start hacking, including jailbreaking, my 3g K3, but I'm worried about possibly disabling my ability to browse using 3g. The latter is important to me, since I often use my Kindle to get important information, such as bus schedules, while I'm out. (My 'smart' phone has a really lousy browser!)

Can somebody point me to info in regard to this possible problem?

P.S. (1) I wouldn't mind having a dual-boot set-up where only the less-hacked OS allowed 3g browsing.

(2) The model number on the back of my Kindle is D00901, if that makes any difference.
