Tweets from Tahrir

I don't know whether it's the done thing to review individual books in this forum, but I very strongly recommend this book by Alex Nunns and Nadia Idle. It's available from OR Books at www.orbooks.com/our-books/tweets-from-tahrir/

I'll review it under three headings: interest, format, and value.

-Interest. The book is a compilation of tweets and photographs made by the protesters in Egypt who brought about the downfall of Hosni Mubarak, arranged day by day over the several days it took. there is a summary of the background for that day before each collection of tweets. I was in Cairo for nearly a week at the time of the revolution with a Code Pink delegation hoping to go to Gaza, and the tweets vividly brought back memories of what we saw and the conversations we had with the protesters. And it helped me to remember the exhilaration we all felt when talking to the protesters, and the joy and pride they expressed. It's enthralling. Score 5 out of 5.

- Format. I'm not quite so pleased here. I suspect that the ebook was designed for an iPad because the pagination is wobbly at times. Also each tweet is accompanied by a thumbnail of the tweeter which is too small to be legible or any value. But the many photographs are marvellous, even in monochrome. Score 4.9 out of 5.

- Value. Like the other ebooks from OR this ebook comes as a zip file which contains two folders - one for Apple computers and one for Windows computers. Each folder contains versions of the book in pdf, mobi, prc, and ePub formats. The whole package costs $8US, and is DRM and geographic restrictions free. And I know from other contacts with OR Books that customer service is excellent. Score 5 out of 5.

I think that this is an exceptional book, with almost the highest possible ratings.

I have no relationship with OR books except as a satisfied customer.

Regards, Alex
