newcomer....

Hi all,
i just got an eeepc t101mt.
the first thing i would like to do was e-book reading....
and found calibre.

i liked the concept, but im quite lost still.
i have read over the forum that 2col pdf conversion is planned for the future. great. \o/

now, i would like to learn a little more.
what would be the recommended format to convert to? (if possible, why)
and would be possible to add an eeepc t101mt profile for the output list?

it has 1024x768 and 1024x600 (default), so in tablet mode 768x1024 would be my choice.

is there anyone here using such device that could gave me recommendations about it?

thanks in advance,

Welcome to the forum, Coolcat!

I don't have answers for you, but I'm sure someone here will have. Meanwhile, have fun looking around and enjoy your new machine! Calibre is a great program and I am sure you will get a lot of use from it.

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but I read today in another thread that work on the PDF engine is stalled because there is no developer currently working on it. Unless that changes, you're in for a wait.

Depends on what you want to read on. If you want to read with the Calibre viewer you'll probably be happiest with ePub, since the viewer converts to ePub internally if the file isn't already in that format. Also, ePub seems to have the most extensive support for formatting out of all the ebook formats (I don't count PDF as an ebook format).

The output profile mostly just sets cover image sizes and margins. Try setting it to default, that ought to work. The ebook text itself is reflowable, so display size doesn't really matter much.

If you don't want to run Calibre for Management of your Library (because that is going to be done on another PC) on your EEEPC, You might look at the Firefox plugin for EPUB format .

just now i found that i was subscribing my own topic, anyway here what i found till now.
epub seems to be THE format.
i would like to make the text "reflow" to obbey the pages numbers though.

infact, i just found this replies by luck, as i was to point out this pdf-epub converter
[pirate site]

it seems really good for one colum pdf, but it has issues with especial characters, i think it worth a check.

best wishes,
