Matching filenames on device to Calibre DB

In order to conform with what appears to be the standard format for file names on the Novel, I changed the "Sending books to devices" template from "{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}" to "{author_sort}/{title}{series:| (|)}". However, now when I connect the device, Calibre doesn't recognize these files and instead creates new, duplicate DB entries for these books. Considering how configurable Calibre is, I'm sure there's a way to alter the reverse parsing, but where and how? Also, is there a way to merge the DB entries that refer to the same book?

calibre does not match filenames. It uses metadata to decide when a book is the "same" and it caches that information in metadata.calibre on the device. When you change the send to device template, duplicates will be created. There is no way to avoid that. I would suggest you delete and resend the files in question.

I did that anyway to try to better understand the interaction between Calibre and the device in regard to my other issue, and this issue went away (as expected, now that I understand what's happening).

BTW, Kovid, I'd just like you to know that I really appreciate your responses; this level of communication between users and programmers is, sadly, rare, and all the more amazing considering that you don't charge money for the program. Thank you for all your effort.
