Self Help/Motivational/Leadership. Did it help you?

I was wondering how many people have read self- help/leadership/motivational books and actually got motivated by them or was useful to them.

I have read some of them:-

The Monk who Sold his Ferrari - Robin S Sharma
Who Will Cry whne You Die - Robin S Sharma
Blink - Malcolm Gladwell
Why Men Marry Bitches - Sherry Argov
Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus - John Gray

There are many more....

While the first two books were wonderful. The rest three were good, but I found them more to be humourous. Nonetheless a good time pass light reading.

I wonder sometimes, if a serious soul seriously starts taking their advice, whats going to happen.

I imagine it depends on that particular soul's dysfunction, the guru we're talking about, and how well the soul takes advice. For example, John Gray did help me clarify some relationship differences I was only tangentially aware of. My third wife appreciates that, lol.

If you want to "make friends and influence people" you could do a lot worse than to follow Dale Carnegie's recipe in his very old book with that title.

I have found several self-help books that helped me in real life. The ones that have impacted me the most include:
  • Wayne Dyer's "The Power of Intention"
  • Richard Carlsons "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff"
  • Jennifer White's "Work Less, Make More"

Of course, just reading book doesn't make the change - you have to fully embrace the principles and work every day at mastering them. Work most people aren't willing to do.
